City of God R3
The HK R3 release of City of God is now out. It's on the Panorama label. They have a poor track record on their releases except for their Cathay series. But its cheap at HK$58.
The Cathay films are really R0 even though labeled R3. I don't know about any others.

First, the City of God(R3 HK) is not out yet. It will be available at the end of this week.
According to the sales rep from Panorama it is anamorphic, but you never know untill you test the disc.

I have purchased R3 discs in the past which actually didn't have any region encoding and I was able to play them on my Region 1 player. Do you have a region 1 player you could pop this disc into and check for me? I would appreciate this very much since I don't want to wait for the region 1 version.
Thanks!

ZWUNCKI: which soundtrack is on the dvd? english?
...I dont speak Portuguese myself however I would rather listen to the original soundtrack! (old topic, no need for discussion)....
...with that said your post implies English dub track not subs, (perhaps you meant English subs option which is different than an "English track"....) hence, my assumption that perhaps a HK company would not include a pure English dub track as it is the practice with Miramax in the US (though I am sure there are exceptions).....
with that said, and with no need for your sarcasm, I never implied that "everyone speaks Portuguese"....

i wasnīt sarcastic
ok i meant englich dubbed, but as the HK DVDīs i quite cheap and no extras it was a stupid question to asked. sorry ....
as i said iīll go for the german, as there isnīt just portog. on it but german too
but i think most of the people watch english or any language they understand, so i think the answer would / was interessting to more people than just me.

no need to apologize....and there are no stupid questions...
for the record: the majority on this board would probably watch the film with its original language track subbed with an English track....
...with this said I would never watch a film with a dubbed-over track...I dont need "to understand" the original language to enjoy the film as it was meant to be seen (there have been a number of discussions regarding the issue)...ask the Asian film buffs around here how they feel about the issue....
...then again I am very much familiar with the German practice to dub-over films so people "dont read" them (good old RTL policy for example)....
anyhow....I think that you would enjoy the film in its original language with German subs much more as opposed to having a German dub track only.

I got mine today and watched it. The transfer is really good. Better than I am used to for Hong Kong DVDs. It is anamorphic and it is indeed Region 3 for those that wanted to know. It would not play in my DVD player until I changed the region code on it.
