Third Eye Blind -Out of the Vein- Thoughts
Picked this up on Tuesday. On two listens my 3 favs are "Faster", "Blinded" and "Palm Reader". Some good choruses but nowhere near as good as their debut or follow-up "Blue".
The DVD is worthless in my opinion. I watch and I won't ever look at it again.
Maybe the album will provide more likeable tracks on repeated listens. Notably absent is the former guitarist Kevin Cadogan. His guitar is sorely missed as there are no catchy hooks ala "Semi Charmed Life" "Never Let You Go" "Losing a Whole Year" etc...

Although I just didn't like it at all on my first listen, I really came to like "Blue" over the years... perhaps better than the first album even though I've played that so often for so long. Just wanted to make sure this didn't turn into a thread where everyone crapped on Blue.
Nonetheless, I haven't any non Pearl Jam music in about 9 months now, and I don't see 3eb's new one changing that tune.

I do not see why people dislike Blue. (Everyone needs the unedited version of 'slow motion' rather than instrumental piece forced by Elektra). Blue had a different "feel" than their debut, but the fanbase seemed slightly turned-off, while the critics gave them some deserved respect....I haven't gotten to listen all the way through this new one, but for me, their records take a lot of time to settle in.

I think the album is good.
Stephan Jenkins is talented. He produced the record
alone, again.
The hooks are great and he doesn't pretend to be something
that he's not.
A pop rock band that writes catchy little tunes.
I liked Blue as well.

"Crystal Baller" is one of the best songs 3EB has ever done, if you don't think that it's catchy something is seriously wrong. This is should be the 2nd single from the album.

I picked it up last night. I love the S/T and think "Blue" is almost perfect. I had high expectations for this one. Maybe too high.
On first listen I didn't enjoy it that much. Second time was a lot better though. It's an overall good and almost very good CD. "Faster" is stuck in my head! I can't believe I have a song with lyrics like that stuck in my damn head. "I wanna get off one time and not apologize". That is the freaking chrous! I love Jenkins sometimes!
BUT...
"Self Righteous" could possibly be the worst song I've ever heard. I'm not even kidding. The backup singer sounds like she (he?) is a 5-year old boy. It's awful awful awful! This song is challenging "Sadie Hawkin's Dance" by Reliant K as the worst song I've ever heard. I'll just have to burn a copy of the CD without this song so that I can never hear "Self Righteous" again. GOD I HATE THAT SONG!

It's a bit poppier than their first two albums. . .which is somewhat annoying, because it seems as if I'm already tired of the album. I liked Blue quite a bit, it didn't have the continuity or flow of their self titled (which is their best, an incredible album), but it was a very good album with excellent, meaningful songs. Out of Vein is a good album, and all the songs are good ( not much of a fan of Self Righteous either though), and for that reason I think it's another reason to love 3eb. Not sure if I'd place it as good as Blue just yet, I'd have to listen to it a bit more, but a very good CD worth a purchase.
The DVD was great I thought, very cool, raw 25 minute scrap book.
So a very cool record. Another Life, Blinded, and Can't Get Away are my favorites.

First 5 songs are very good as is "Can't Get Away." I loved their S/T and I loved the first 6 songs of Blue. I'm still getting over the fact that new 3EB songs have finally been released.
