Robert B. Parker/Robert Crais discussion
Spencer and Cole
cracking wise in dialogue and narrative
both know how to cook
quiet and deadly sidekicks (Hawk and Pike)
and many more similarities
-----------------
Who do you prefer and why?
Do you think Crais ripped off Parker? Or did he just "copy" him? Or was he just "inspired" by him?
Is there room on your shelf for both?
Your favorite book in each series?

I've only read Parker and I like his books. I just bought Back Story, but haven't gotten to it yet.
The books don't have the depth or draw me in the way some other detective writers do, but I still enjoy them. I consider them more of a lighter reading I guess.
I'm going to have to read some of Robert Crais' books and see what I've missed.

Two of my favorite authors. I prefer Parker's earlier Spenser novels but he's dropped off in the last few years. The Jesse Stone novels are promising. I haven't read all the Cole novels yet so I won't name a favorite, my favorite Spenser novel is Early Autumn.
Clearly the Cole novels are patterned from the Spenser novels but I wouldn't go so far as to say he ripped Parker off.
