I know when I saw the trailers for Abandon, i was like, they just gave away the whole movie in 2 minutes but the movie does do an about face and does turn into a pretty effective thriller with some actual scares and a pretty cool surprise of an ending, definately worth a rent at the least.

You're right. It wasn't really bad--just painfully mediocre.

Yeah, I agree. It asbolutely is not a "bad" movie, there are tons & tons of just plain bad movies, especially in these genre & with this still teen targeted cast of this movie. And this by no means is a "bad" movie.
But it is utterly mediocre in every sense, nothing shocking, original, special, or even really good about this movie. But nothing bad either, just completely average.

Levels of badness seems to be dulled on DVD.
What would have seemed horrible in a theater can sometime pass as decent at home on a Saturday night when you've got nothing else to do and it only set you back $3.50 to rent the flick.

I'm glad to hear it's not too bad. I just picked up a copy at my local used DVD shop for 12 bucks. Yep, that's right 12 bucks. :D
This was a blind buy for me. Now hopefully I can find time to watch it before the end of the week. :)
