Played Unreal Championship for a couple of hours Tonight.

Hey Guys I got the call tonight late from EB's
so I had a chance to play some Unreal Championship
tonight. It's real late and I'm tired but I'll give
some Initial impressions.

Like the Programmers fessed up to there are som areas
that are incosistant in frame rate, but it is not on
all the Maps and genrally they are pretty smooth, nothing
to affect gameplay a whole lot. The 5.1 is awesome, maybe
mech is a bit better but this is very good.

The Menu system/Lobby is still not all that great but it's
better than Mechassault , at least you can stay in for more
than one game.

Lag well this is definately peer to peer and the way the
manual describes your connection performance it looks like
it always will be. That said connect speed will very with
the amount of players but I played both 4 player and 12 player
matches and they were all very good. Although alot of 16 player
matches had ??? in their speed displays.

Graphics are gorgeous 480P and Widescreen.

Control is pretty tight an mimics what else but Halo of course.
I find myself quite comfortable with it and it is tweakable.
But the default setting is Good.

All in all this is a very fun game, the team chat is selectable
and therefore a step up from Mech. Everybody I chatte with like the
game alot.

Well off to bed if I did'nt have to work in the morning I'd still
be playing.

I am a hardcore Unreal and Unreal Tournament player on the PC. I got my Xbox about a month ago, and I want to know FROM OTHER UT PLAYERS if this Unreal Championship is anything to get excited about. After all, this is based on the much-criticized Unreal Tournament 2003 (PC), no? I have played UT2K3 for a while, and compared to UT, it is lacking in so much. I've read rave reviews for Unreal Championship but not one review I've read compares it at all to UT (or even UT2K3) on the PC. Most of the reviews compared it to Halo and Timesplitters 2, but that doesn't do much for me, as I just received my ($30 at bestbuy.com) Halo yesterday.

Any help would be appreciated.

I would compare it more to UT2k3 on the PC. However, I think it's a step down from UT. Not much has changed. A few new levels, bombing run mode, some new weapons and the characters have different skills. If you like fast paced shooters, you will probably like this. I put lots of hours into UT on the PC and felt Deja Vu right away when I played UC. Maybe I'm just burned out on these types of games but I was disapointed.

Forget about sniping too. You have to use a lame lightning gun with a scope.

It looks and sounds good and it runs smooth for the most part. But in my opinion it's not much different from UT or UT2k3. You really need to play it yourself to decide.

I like the lightning gun... plus, there's instagib mode where you have a better one-hit kill gun.

Wait a minute, are you saying there is no more sniper rifle? That's the best weapon in the game. Right now we are playing URT, on the office lan. There's about 6 of us playing. Let me just say I haven't had this much fun in a long time.

they specifically took out the regular sniper rifle so chicken ***** campers couldn't just sit in one spot the whole time...with the lightning gun, you can see where they're coming from and can be flushed out so that they actually learn how to circle-strafe, jump and aim all at once ...that's why I like UT2k3 much better multiplayer.

I'm not really expectingh much from this game but it's the only LIVE game that seemed at all interesting. Never got to play much of the orginal Unreal cause my PC was pretty weak and barely ran it.

I just had to pick a launch game and this seemed like the best choice considering what I like. I just hope it and my LIVE kit get here soon.

Plus, the lightning gun has some splash damage, so that makes it even more cool.

Yeah, I love the lightning gun. It's so fun to use. Of course, it's best combined with flak cannon or rocket launcher for "just in case" weapons.

Just shoot them once with the lightning gun, if you miss the head shot then follow it up with a rocket or flak them up.

Have you guys played 4 player split screen yet? Framerate gets hit big time.
