Phantom Ship (1935)
I just received this short Bela Lugosi feature.
I've seen it many times in the past but this is the best print I've ever viewed. There are flaws throughout but I really doubt that there is a possibility to do better with the remaining source material.
This is a very early Hammer ~ YES HAMMER ~ film staring Bela Lugosi. Per the packaging, the original begining and ending (which took place in a shipping court of inquiry) has been lost. What remains is a very entertaining if creeky 62 minutes.
I've alway enjoyed this film and think the atmosphire is wonderful. Lugosi plays a great role and the rest of the cast are quite interesting. Yes.....It's a B movie, but that shouldn't stop you if you like Lugosi.
BB sells it for about $10.99 (plus tax), DDD for $10.79 (shipped) and Amazon for $13.49 (plus S&H). At this price I think it's a good buy even if just for a curiosity piece.
