Esquivel dies

No one at work had any idea who I was talking about, so maybe I'm on my own here, but Juan Garcia Esquivel, best known for his "Space Ace Bachelor Pad" music died in Mexico last week.

I'm with you . You haven't lived til you've had a martini in Mexico City w/ Esquivel in the background.

Sad news, but I had imagined he died long ago. His stuff is ultra-cool!

He did a killer track with Combustible Edison called "miniskirt"

That's about all I know about him.

I was bummed to hear he'd died although I too had thought he'd died around '95 or so? There was a good show on NPR's "Fresh Air" about him yesterday. His music was groovy, it would've been great included in "Ghost World" I think....

Wow. I hadn't heard this. Of all the famous people I've heard about dying the past year, this makes me the saddest (of course, it's not a big surprise, though). In 1995 when his music was being released on CD I became bitten HARD by the Esquivel bug.
His music is so playful and fun. What amazes me is the time period it was released. It must have been a shock to hear his music next to "normal" big band sounds. I will always love listening to the way he arranged things. Simply a genious.

My favorite was Sentimental Journey. I think I'll go listen now.

Sad news. Not only was his sound cool but so were his glasses.
