Radio station 102.3 in Austin, the local "classic rock" station, started a "Beatles from A to Z" at 9am this morning, for any local Otters who are interested. I would assume other radio stations are (this one is a Clear Channel station, so their other stations of this format may be doing the same).

Started with A Day in the Life, A Hard Days Night, and Across the Universe (then I got to work).

I really want to see you

Really want to be with you

Really want to see you lord

But it takes so long, my lord

My sweet lord

Hm, my lord

Hm, my lord

Most people don't understand this, but he was my favorite Beatle. It's difficult for me to say exactly why, although I can say specifically that there was something about his voice, manner, and songwriting that made me respect him more than the other Beatles. I am very sad to see him go. I hope he now has the answers to some of the spiritual mysteries he explored in music.

Very Sad, but it has been coming for a while, Paul's interview in rolling stone touched on it a bit, but he felt that he should not interfere as george was very private.

So Liverpool lose another son.

"Cloud Nine" was actually the first Beatles-related album I remember buying, back in '87 when "I Got My Mind Set On You" was inescapable. Still think it's a sorely underrated disc, even now when I own every single Beatles CD and many of their solo ones. While the obvious choice, Lennon, was always my favorite Beatle, Harrison was my second favorite and always the most "interesting" one to me – he made all the unexpected choices in his life, not becoming a Vegas lounge act like Ringo or resting more or less on his creative laurels like Paul has.

The 2001 re-release of "All Things Must Pass" is a great CD, too. Won't be able to listen to "My Sweet Lord" without a twinge of sadness for quite some time..... Guess he's with Him now....

Words are flowing out like endless rain into a paper cup,
They slither wildly as they slip away across the universe.
Pools of sorrow, waves of joy are drifting through my open mind,
Possessing and caressing me.
Jai guru deva om.

Nothing's gonna change my world,
Nothing's gonna change my world,
Nothing's gonna change my world,
Nothing's gonna change my world.

Images of broken light which dance before me like a million eyes,
Thay call me on and on across the universe.
Thoughts meander like a restless wind inside a letter box,
They tumble blindly as they make their way across the universe.
Jai guru deva om.

Nothing's gonna change my world,
Nothing's gonna change my world,
Nothing's gonna change my world,
Nothing's gonna change my world.

Sounds of laughter shades of love are ringing through my open ears,
Inciting and inviting me.
Limitless undying love which shines around me like a million suns,
It calls me on and on across the universe.
Jai guru deva om.

Nothing's gonna change my world,
Nothing's gonna change my world,
Nothing's gonna change my world,
Nothing's gonna change my world.

Jai guru deva om,
Jai guru deva om,
Jai guru deva om...

KUFX in San Jose is playing non-stop Beatles today. All George songs all the time. I think if they didn't, their listener base would probably riot.

Only the good die young.

Another Harrison great to reflect on:

Something in the way she moves
Attracts me like no other lover
Something in the way she woos me
I don't want to leave her now
You know I believe and how

Somewhere in her smile she knows
That I don't need no other lover
Something in her style that shows me
I don't want to leave her now
You know I believe and how

You're asking me will my love grow
I don't know, I don't know
You stick around and it may show
I don't know, I don't know

Something in the way she knows
And all I have to do is think of her
Something in the things she shows me
I don't want to leave her now
You know I believe and how

Not difficult at all to understand. Very sorry to hear. In Dec 8 1980, I was sitting in my kitchen at home and reading about John Lennon. I had decided while reading that article that I wanted someday to meet him. My mom came in and told me he was just shot.

Last night, when George Harrison died, I was reading a biography on John Lennon.

A very sad day, but what a rich life.

Jim

Yeah, this totally sucks. George was the most underrated Beatle..lots of peope fell in love with Paul, love to hate Ringo, and love to idolize John, but George just sort of falls by the wayside.

I can't believe he's gone...

So many great songs..

I didnt live through Beatlemania, but I remember clearly when it first clicked with me that this was a band and that they had broken up. Its was in 1973. I never personally underrated George, and certainly when you look at his whole career its hard to say anything negative about it. George had a lot of firsts and was innovated and most of all, curious.

Im right now reading the Art & Music of John Lennon by John Robertson. Very interesting book. It doesnt' really go too much into Harrison as its specifically about trying to understand Lennon through a historical look at all the recordings whether released or not as well as his other art. I've read and studied these guys since I was 8 years old. This book is very intriquing for what it says between the lines. Of course knowing the recording intimately that this guy is referencing brings a bit of depth to the passages.

I have to dig out my I Me Mine and give that a read. I can wait to go home and visit all my friends so we can have Harrison jam and drink some beers.

Feeling a bit nostalgic tonight.

Jim
