Alright guys,
Here's my dilemma. I want to by a new HDTV but do not want to spend more than $2300. THe huge Projection HDTVs have a very attractive price. Why is that? I'll be using my TV mainly for watching DVDs, playing PS2 games and watching HDTV broadcasts. Are there any downsides in choosing an projection screen? I've heard people say that one should not be playing games on a projection screen. Is this true?

If I were buying a TV today, I would go for a 42" widescreen (or any size as long as it was widescreen).

But that's just me...Toshiba and Sony probably have the best picture I've ever seen.

quick question from me on the fly...How many types of screen's are there? And which is the best in terms of clarity?

Widescreen projection, projection, flatscreen tube, widescreen flat-tube..... Among others (i suppose).

Clarity is best on a CRT.

There are a few tube based sets you can go for, but they won't be nearly as large as a projection.

For $2300, the best tube based HDTVs right now are either the Sampo 34" 16:9 HDTV (which is essentially a big PC monitor that can handle 480p/1080i/720p), or the 38" 16:9 RCA (the model # fails me) which has the HDTV tuner built in, but can only do up to 1080i (no 720p).

Then there are a whole bunch of 4:3 CRT "HDTVs" which I wouldn't even consider.

If you're interested in playing video games I'd recommend a direct view over a rear projection model - you'll have a smaller screen of course but no danger of buring.

This model has a built in HD tunner OTA and Direct TV so that will save you a minnium of $449 over purchasing a HD monitor and HD tunner


I'm tempted to get one for my bed room and to play video games on so I won't risk burning into my rear projection model
