You can find them at http://www.starblazers.com

I'm wondering about the contrast; the VHS tapes of the series had such poor contrast that you had to watch them in a dark room w/no lights. Is the DVD any better?

They are a little better, but not much. I have noticed that there is slight improvement on discs 3,4 as opposed to 1 and 2.

Hope this helps

Yeah, thanks, that helps a lot. I saw the first campaign Media Play today; I decided to hold off and I'm glad I did.

Thanks!!

Okay, remember these cartoons are 25-30 years old! So don't expect the world!

The first disc pretty much sucks (worst menu I have ever seen), however their are remarkable improvements with each new disc. My only complaint is that they are $30 a piece with only 4 episodes per disc. However, I won't complain too much....after all it's starblazers!

Just because it's that old doesn't excuse it; the film 'Rollerball' is even older and the transfer on that was quite good and occasionally fantastic.

You gotta wonder if they're getting better as they're being done, this is starting to scream 'Collector's Edition' in a year or two.

I don't get this business of 4 episodes/DVD. They could probably fit the entire campaign on 2 and yeah, people will pay $60 per DVD for that. What's the point of wasting the shelf-space? Oh well. I suppose I'll wait until I can find a place that rents it.

Thanks,
jeff

Yep, the price tag is high. Amazon has vol 6 up for pre-order at $22 and change. That's the route I'm going...

Yeah, but once I figure in shipping and tax the Suncoast price isn't that much more than Amazon, plus I get it right away.

They charge you tax

Well, yea Suncoast is the better deal then...for the "I got it in my hands now" factor.

Also, another thing to consider is buy.com. They have the first five episodes for 22.49 (though they are out of vol 2 & 4). They have free shipping weekends often, so if you could wait, thats the best deal I've seen for the Star Blazers DVDs

You can get them for 20.50 each, plus shipping directly from:

http://www.starblazers.com

I ordered the first two from them, and they arrived promptly and as described.

I didn't know they sold them. I wish I'd known when I first started buying them.

Anywho, I just found the best possible deal for vol 6. Got it pre-ordered at CDNow with a 15% off link for 21.81 shipped

Check this thread...

http://www.dvdtalk.com/forum/showthr...hreadid=128214

If you order do it quick as this expires 8-28 (tomorrow)

But beware, wish I'd done a search before I placed my order. CDNow has a bad rep for Anime titles

I'm giving them 2 weeks to come up with it, since I got such a good price...Hopefully. Order at your own risk.
