DVD Review: The Lion in Winter

Well, MGM, what a wonderful DVD company, NOT
At least, however, they have improved on the most important aspect of the DVD for this go-around, the film itself.
First the BAD:
For whatever cheap reason there is no chapter card included with the disc.
The home menu for the film looks off-center if you can believe that
Now the GOOD:
The film has a new anamorphic transfer and the film looks stunning (in comparison to any other version Ive seen in the past anyway)
The audio commentary is very inciteful and technical at times, which is GOOD.
The Chapter select menus look fine
Overall rating and conclusion:
Well, this film has been a long time coming to DVD. This has to have, in my opinion, the #1 best dialogue of any film I have ever seen.
In retrospect, who cares about the home menu and the chapter card that much? The film is a $14 purchase and a veritable bargain for the DVD quality. You could pay $30.00 to a studio like Fox for comparable product and get an insert card. If that's the only way MGM cuts corners from now on, so be it. I'll make my own chapter insert card
Film Rating: 10/10 Why this film didnt get best picture is beyond me
DVD Rating 8/10 Not tons of supplements, but heck, this is the first film Ive really WANTED to listen to a commentary for in quite some time

Thanks indianbsa. I was looking for a review of Lion in Winter. What I'm wondering about, though, is this: Does it have English subtitles or did MGM leave them out once again?

From my experience with MGM titles (Bond movies, for example), they leave out English titles but do offer close captioning. My big screen does not have CC, though, while newer TVs come with the feature as standard.
