Anime Limited Launch Mai Mai Miracle Kickstarter

Anime Limited is happy to announce that we will be launching a Kickstarter campaign designed to bring Mai Mai Miracle, the beautiful animated film by Sunao Katabuchi, to UK and US audiences.

Wait, what? Why do need you a Kickstarter for doing what you should be doing anyway?

Frankly, this is what you’re all thinking isn’t it? It’s pretty simple actually – Mai Mai Miracle is a film we strongly feel deserves a wider, appreciative audience than it has received in the recent past. Coming at the hands of former Hayao Miyazaki protégé Sunao Katabuchi, Mai Mai Miracle is a sweet film that encapsulates the magic and imagination of two young girls in 1950s Japan.

One of our main mission statements with Anime Limited is to bring new, interesting, niche and not easily available anime to UK fans. We see the overlooked Mai Mai Miracle as one of these niche animated gems that need to be watched. However, we don’t just intend to release this film on blu-ray – we want to give you so much more than a blu-ray disc. We want to give you all sorts of goodies, the kind of beautiful packaging it deserves and we want to open up and bring this film to the US too!

Therein lies the difficulty – we’re a small, independent company from the UK thus making it very tricky/expensive/difficult to distribute a film like Mai Mai Miracle in the US. We would have to throw insane levels of cash at this or in the very least, sublicense the film – which in itself is difficult/tricky/expensive to do with a title that doesn’t have the heavy-hitting cache of a huge studio behind it. So we figure: hey! Why not take it straight to the fans, cut out the middleman and make this as special a release as possible? So that’s what we’re doing.

With this Kickstarter campaign, we hope to raise $30,000 (US) to do the following:
  • Release Mai Mai Miracle in both the UK and the US on blu-ray
  • Create and add English subtitles for the film
  • Produce quality packaging to house the blu-ray disc and make it Collector’s Edition worthy
  • Share some of the truly beautiful artwork, illustrations and behind-the-scenes goodness that comes with the making of such an animated film
We view this Kickstarter campaign as the best way to bring in and widely distribute a small, charming film that should be enjoyed by as many people as possible. And to say thank you for any help, support and love we will give you as much bang for your buck as possible.

So here’s your chance to support something sweet, unique and magical. We love this film and we hope you will too.

Mai Mai Miracle

Mai Mai Miracle is the story of two young girls, their friendship and their unique magical take on the world around them – a view that is only possible in the minds and imaginations of children. When a young girl named Kiiko moves to a small country town, she befriends Shinko, a bright, imaginative girl who has a special way of viewing the world around her and connecting it to the region’s past. With Shinko’s lead, Kiiko follows her on numerous adventures of imagination and time travel finally breaking free of her shell and learning to let go of the grief she carries for her deceased mother.

Mai Mai Miracle does a great job of converting that magic into art in a way that is unique to the film which very much adds to the overall feel of the story. It is a joy to behold and a great film for kids and adults alike. If this sounds like something you’d love to see, or you would like more information and details on the Kickstarter campaign please pledge on our page!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SENTAI FILMWORKS LICENSES
“LOVE, CHUNIBYO AND OTHER DELUSIONS! -HEART THROB-”

HOUSTON, February 4, 2014 - The Chuni-versal language of love is about to get re-written in Sentai Filmworks' latest acquisition, Love, Chunibyo and Other Delusions! -Heart Throb-. This direct follow up to the wildly popular first season is directed by Tatsuya Ishihara (CLANNAD, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya), with series composition by Jukki Hanada (Rozen Maiden series, Special A), art direction by Mutsuo Shinohara (CLANNAD~After Story~, Kanon) and animation production by acclaimed Kyoto Animation (K-ON!, Beyond the Boundary).

Yuta Togashi thought he had problems dealing with one delusional girlfriend in the person of Rikka Takanashi, but now things are about to go totally insane as his FORMER “one true soul mate” from when he was a chuni himself returns… with a vengeance! So how bad is Satone Shichimiya’s re-entry into Yuta’s Chuni-verse likely to be? Let’s just say that she’s so epically off the deep end of the Chuni-scale that she prefers to use the name Sophia Ring SP Saturn VII and that she’ll joyfully tear Yuta’s real world to pieces in order to get him back in her imaginary one! Some girls just want to have fun and some want to break down the walls between their boyfriends and themselves, but when a girl’s idea of fun is breaking down the wall between their presumed boyfriend and reality, retreating into a fantasy world might just be Yuta’s best option. Especially since Satone knows where ALL the skeletons from his past are buried. Toss Rikka’s equally delusional friend Dekomori into the mix and girl crazy takes on a whole new meaning in LOVE, CHUNIBYO AND OTHER DELUSIONS! -HEART THROB-!

Love, Chunibyo and Other Delusions! -Heart Throb- will be available soon through select digital outlets with a home video release to follow.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SENTAI FILMWORKS LICENSES
“MAOYU – ARCHENEMY & HERO”

HOUSTON, February 25, 2014 – Even a guy named Hero will need a little help to save the world in Sentai Filmworks' latest acquisition, Maoyu – Archenemy & Hero. This romantic underworld comedy from the mind of Mamare Touno (LOG HORIZON) is directed by Takeo Takahashi (So I Can’t Play H, Spice and Wolf) with series composition by Naruhisa Arakawa (Outbreak Company, UPOTTE!!), music by Takeshi Hama (Kobato), and animation production by Arms Corporation (SAMURAI GIRLS, Wizard Barristers). Names can be deceiving, something the warrior known as Hero quickly discovers when he storms the castle of the dread Demon King that mankind has fought for 15 years. For one thing, the “King” turns out to be a Queen! Even more shocking, though, is that she’s been waiting for him with a very unexpected proposal. It would be bad for BOTH sides if the war was to end immediately, she points out, as without a common enemy, the individual factions of the winning side are certain to turn on each other in a new series of civil wars. However, she has a plan to end the wars, bring democracy and advanced knowledge to the humans, and ensure lasting prosperity for both sides, no matter who “wins.” But to accomplish this, she needs a collaborator on the human side, and she’s chosen Hero as the one partner she can trust! Is it a deal with the devil, or mankind’s only hope for lasting peace? The traditional rules of Swords and Sorcery are completely rewritten as the “good guy” and the “bad girl” join forces to save the world in MAOYU – ARCHENEMY & HERO!

Maoyu – Archenemy & Hero will be available soon through select digital outlets with a home video release to follow.

The duplicates are real, and are being mass-produced from Misaka’s DNA, making each one of them a little piece of her.

These clones—her sisters—are being systematically murdered in a series of experiments designed to turn a sadistic killer into the strongest esper in history. Misaka vows to save her copies and destroy the project, but this might be one fight she can’t win alone. High-energy battles and intense action explode in this continuation of the Railgun series from the creator of A Certain Magical Index.

TO MANORS AND HOSTEL BEHAVIOR”

HOUSTON, March 26, 2014 – A quiet life alone has some advantages, but Usa may never find out what those are in Sentai Filmworks' latest acquisition, The Kawai Complex Guide to Manors and Hostel Behavior. This romantic slice of life comedy from original creator Ruri Miyahara (Love Lab) is directed by Shigeyuki Miya (Blood Lad, Supernatural: The Anime Series) with series composition by Takeshi Konuta (Ace of Diamond, Library Wars), music by Akito Matsuda (D-Fregments, Dog & Scissors), and animation production by Brains Base (Kamichu!, Natsume’s Book of Friends).

However, with this newfound freedom come the shackles of responsibility, and his hopes and dreams are soon dashed when confronted with the indecent behavior of his lecherous neighbor, Shirosaki. Usa promised he wouldn’t complain if he could just live on his own... he just didn’t expect so much drama. Not only do Usa and his dream-girl Ritsu attend the same school, but Ritsu’s grandaunt, the landlady Sumiko, tries to give Usa weird relationship advice regarding the two. To top it all off, everything is upended when Usa meets Mayumi, an older, flirty woman that he runs into on the street. Will Usa’s fantasy of a normal life ever become a reality? “ONE WEEK FRIENDS”

HOUSTON, March 27, 2014 – Can a truly unforgettable friendship really be formed in only seven days? In Yuki’s case, it’s going to have to be in Sentai Filmworks' latest acquisition, One Week Friends. This comedic high school drama from original creator Matcha Hazuki is directed by Tarou Iwasaki (Sunday Without God, Another), with series composition by Shotaro Suga (My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU, The Eccentric Family), art direction by Akira Ito (Bodacious Space Pirates, AKB0048), and animation production by Brains Base (Penguindrum, Amnesia).

It is said that one of the qualities of a true friendship is to understand and be understood. Unfortunately, this can be easier said than done, particularly when it comes to being friends with someone that has no recollection of being your friend the week after befriending them. To become friends over and over, again and again… that is the goal of Yuki Hase when approaching schoolmate Kaori Fujimaya. You see, things aren’t so simple when your memory disappears. And that’s exactly what happens with Kaori – she’s always alone because she can’t commit anything to memory, even if that commitment is as special as a memory of one of her friends. No matter how cherished her memories are, they vanish by the time Monday rolls around. But Yuki won’t give up in the fight for friendship as he embarks on a new mission every week to befriend a person he already knows. In this friendship, everything that’s old is new again in ONE WEEK FRIENDS!

SENTAI FILMWORKS LICENSES
“LOVE LAB”

HOUSTON, April 15, 2014 – A new kind of class is in session, and the matters of love are on the agenda in Sentai Filmworks' latest acquisition, Love Lab. From original creator Ruri Miyahara, this heartwarming junior high school comedy series is directed by Masahiko Ohta (Minami-ke, Brighter than the Dawning Blue) with series composition by Takashi Aoshima (Mitsudomoe, Yuruyuri – Happy go Lily), music by Yasuhiro Misawa (Kokoro Connect, La storia della Arcana Famiglia), and animation production by Dogakobo (Engaged to the Unidentified, Majestic Prince).

Perhaps it was from the shock of discovering her school’s most respected girl kissing a life-size huggie doll, but in those first awkward moments Riko Kurahashi said something she wishes she hadn’t. Because not only did student council president Natsuo Maki completely swallow Riko’s glib fib about being “popular with the boys,” she drafted Riko as her aide and advisor in love and romance! That would have been bad enough if Natsuo only wanted advice, but Fujisaki Girls Academy’s most brilliant student is also the most obsessive, and simply talking about the opposite sex isn’t sufficient. No, Natsuo postulates hypothetical scenarios and “researches” them in her secret Love Lab! And since interaction with boys is banned at Fujisaki, guess who has to help act those fantasies out? And as other girls join the Love Lab, Riko’s role as the group’s love-master becomes even worse! Because she ISN’T one! Most boys don’t even LIKE her, but how can she admit that without destroying the friendships she now cherishes? Exposure looms and each new “experiment” brings Riko one step closer to total disaster as Love and Deception combine into the ultimate explosive mixture in the LOVE LAB!

Love Lab will be available soon through select digital outlets with a home video release to follow.

“KAMIGAMI NO ASOBI”

HOUSTON, April 16, 2014 – A young girl is given the herculean task of strengthening the bonds between humans and gods by Zeus himself in Sentai Filmworks' latest acquisition, Kamigami no Asobi. This supernatural romance series is directed by Tomoyuki Kawamura (My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU, Good Luck Girl!) with series composition by Tomoko Kanparu (Kimi ni Todoke – From Me to You, NANA), character design by Minako Shiba (Tegami Bachi: Letter Bee, Black Butler) and animation production by Brains Base (One Week Friends, Penguindrum).

The question of who weaves our destiny has always been shrouded in mystery. However, in a twist of fate,Yui Kusanagi discovers a mighty and mysterious sword that transports her to another world. There, this ordinary high school girl finds herself face-to-face with the mighty Greek god Zeus. As her fortune would have it, The God of Thunder has an unusual request: remain in the dimension he has created and attend a school of legendary proportions. When he’s not busy ruling the universe, Zeus acts as headmaster and dean for a school of young, somewhat misguided gods. The bond between humans and gods has weakened, and it is now up to Yui to teach the gods about love and what it means to be human. Will the dice of fortune fall in her favor? Or will the pressure of being a modern-day Venus be too much to handle? Only time will tell what happens as her fate unfolds before her. Whatever the outcome, bring on the bishounen as Yui tries to reveal who her true destiny is tied to in KAMIGAMI NO ASOBI!

Kamigami no Asobi will be available soon through select digital outlets with a home video release to follow.

Kurumi had given up on the world, but a brilliant scientist devised a plan to win her back. By melding futuristic technology with the binary equivalent of human emotion, they created an ultra-lifelike robotic surrogate to take Hal's place -- and lure Kurumi from her shroud of solitude. Though their unique bond grew stronger with each passing day, Kurumi and Hal would soon discover that nothing about their artificial love story was quite as it seemed.
