I just work away at it with my thumb nail. It takes time and patience. A dab of Goo-Gone is needed sometimes too, but just the tiniest drop or else the paper will get too wet and look crappy. I successfully removed the sticker from 1984, Diabolique, The Foot Fist Way, Five Easy Pieces and Last Temptation of Christ without damage to the art. NIght of the Hunter had a little bit of tearing, but a black marker touched up the spots just fine and you'd never know it by looking at my shelf.

Better Off Dead was so-so, though...got a little ugly....

I just have to say -- Better off Dead!?! Oh hell yeah! That is one i've been wanting to get into my collection for years. Savage Steve Holland, baby! Thanks for the tips. Sorry, but that movie is one of my absolute favorite comedies from the 80's.

Do you know of any other stores in the area that are still open? I noticed their web site isn't being updated whenever a store closes, probably because the liquidation company took over.

Look in the store forum. You'll find a lot of people having this problem. I have some orders that are going on two months. I just did a charge back. You can try these numbers:
**(360) 546-5528**
**(360) 450-4815**

Also, the red stickers come off easy with Duck Adhesive Remover, available in Super Walmarts, art stores and some hardware stores across America.

There are no others left that I know of. I hit as many of them as I could on their way out. Both Guilderland locations, Halfmoon, Clifton Park, Saratoga Springs, Queensbury, Glenmont...

When the local Hollywood Videos started closing their doors I wrote a fitting epitaph for the chain that had come to our town and drove all our local mom & pop video stores out of business.

DIE, HOLLYWOOD VIDEO, DIE!!!!

Not related to this thread, but since there aren't any more Hollywood Video stores around anymore I thought I'd ask, have you ever been to the Replay Video Games & Movies shop on route 9 & vischer ferry rd in Halfmoon? They have a large selection of movies at some really good prices.

Yes I have! I was there last weekend, in fact. Good prices.

You start at one corner and pull off the upper layer of the red label. Next you scrape of as much of the excess label you can with the scraper than comes on top of the goo gone bottle. Next I apply sparingly a small amount of goo gone to a paper towel and wipe on the rest of whats left of the label let it sit for about ten seconds then scrape the last of it off. I have done over 100 now and haven't torn a single sleeve yet.

As I've said before, not a single BD survived much longer than 1 day at any of the 4 stores that closed in my area once the price hit $1.99, so no BDs ever hit $1 in my area.

Besides, I thought all the stores were closed now (they're all gone in my area at least). Are a few still left in some part of the country? So I thought this thread was over.

The last store (Hudson, NY) in my area closed down yesterday. I picked up about 20 DVDs for $0.25 each. Part of me is glad that they're gone because now my wallet is safe until the next Big Lots update, another part feels sad that there's no competition left in this area for Redbox/Netflix.

Did anyone else get their unshipped orders refunded before the Hollywood website closed? I hope so. I did.

Re: Hollywood Video/Movie Gallery Bankruptcy-Store Closing Thread-2010

I ordered two Blu-rays and a DVD from HWV.com in early June. About two weeks ago, one BD and the DVD arrived, though they had already charged me for the full order. A few days ago, I got an email that they had refunded something and checking my statement online, they credited me the pre-discount code price ($6.99) of the BD. I'm gonna miss looting these and wish I'd gone a day earlier to the Shelby Township one, but it wasn't in the cards.

When is Blockbuster going down?

Re: Hollywood Video/Movie Gallery Bankruptcy-Store Closing Thread-2010

After about 2 months having requested a refund on 1 unshipped title, and on the very day I was going to call my CC company to dispute it, first I checked my CC statement and shockingly there was an unexplained $6.99 credit, so I guess they finally did it and saved me the hassle of disputing it (no idea if it's easy or hard since I've never done it before).

I'm glad the HW Video saga is over for me permanently. Just Blockbuster stores are left someday... Most of their nearby Blockbusters have closed (latest one claims the lease expired and they weren't going to reopen anywhere else), so if and when they do close, going there will be out of my way instead of on my way.

Ok, thanks. I just need to go to the store and get some goo gone, but it sounds like a solid method.
