Wow, Fincher has a pretty good track record. I either really like the movies listed, or want very much to see them.

Fight Club, followed closely by Se7en and then the Game.

I just never got the fuss about Zodiac. Not a bad film, just average for me though.

His best by far... released today IMHO it would have made a lot more money at the BO.
Underrated by whom? Pretty much everyone I know, and most critics, love that movie.

To be fair, I believe its more of a fan favorite than critic darling. Among "top critics," FC is only 65% fresh on rotten tomatoes. Roger Ebert gave it 2 stars. In fact, if I recall correctly, the bulk of the liner notes that came with the SE DVD were dedicated to negative critical responses to the film (I could be remembering wrong though...) I still dig it though.

Echoed. There just really isn't any legitimate argument that can be made to the effect that Fight Club is anything less than a remarkable and highly-polished technical achievement. What drove many critics away, Ebert most certainly being one of them, was the content. Many just found the film offensive. That is much more an indictment on Chuck Palahniuk's novel than on the screenplay. The adaptation, as I recall, was pretty damn faithful.

But are the ratings on Rotten Tomatoes based on reviews from the time when the film was originally released? I read a lot of scathing reviews when Fight Club was first released, and then in the years following its release, many of them began changing their tune. I think it's the kind of film that shook some people up enough that they needed some time/distance from the film or just needed another viewing to truly appreciate it.

Re: Best David Fincher film

Since there is no "none of the above" option, I chose Zodiac. I don't really care for it, but it's the only film of his I don't loathe. The rest of his "films" are shit.

Fight Club followed by Se7en. Fight Club is just one of those movies that I can watch whenever it's on TV or whenever I'm bored. It's got that kind of replay for me.

Re: Best David Fincher film

the main problem I have rewatching Fight Club, is everytime Brad Pitt is on screen my brain starts screaming THAT'S REALLY EDWARD NORTONS CHARACTER DOING/SAYING THAT.
