Personally, I think Pearl Jam's new album kicks the shit out of everything else I've heard this year.

Here are my picks:

Favorite release:

Rise Against - This cd got the most rotation. Just full of great hits like The Good Left Undone.

Best Comeback -

Alice in Chains - who would have ever thought that this band could come back, retain that classic AIC sound and produce one of their best cds since Jar of Flies. Everything I love about AIC is back!

Most Surprising Comeback

Creed - wow, I thought this band was done and buried, but they surprised everyone with a tour and killer single.

Band That I'm Really Sick Of

Has their ever been a week where Nickelback didn't have a single on the charts?

Best New Artist

Kings of Leon - They tore up the charts with a unique blend of vocals and smooth guitar licks.

2nd choice - Hollywood Undead - you get a bit of everything with these guys, rock, catchy rap, and creepy masks.

Band Names that I Hate -

Cavo, Veer Union, Pop Evil - Can't say why, but these names just annoy me and I don't like their music either.

Biggest Letdown -

Chickenfoot - Their release was pretty generic rock, nothing that made me wanna listen to it over and over.

My pick for best album of the year:

Worst of the year? I couldn't say, as I tend not to listen to shit music if I can help it.

One I just don't get is Animal Collective. Bought it, bored by it, traded it in. Just didn't do it for me. Loving Grizzly Bear (another "hip" band) though.

I didn't listen to anybody regarding the new album as I've always been a fan, but am I the only one who feel a bit let down by the new Muse album? There's a few standout, Muse classics here, but overall, I found the new album rather lacking, and a tad unmemorable - especially in comparison to their previous work.

I thought the Heaven And Hell and hell album was very average. About 3 great songs and a bunch of filler.

All I can say is that if you like AIC you will like their new album.
Excluding the absence of Layne they really have not missed a beat.

Yeah, I'm not feeling The Resistance that much either. Certainly not like their last three albums, which I loved instantly.

I need to add Comeback of the Year to my list: Pearl Jam - Backspacer. I haven't enjoyed a PJ album beginning to end since Yield. Backspacer has renewed my faith in the band.

I've only heard Origin prior to Resistance so I'm sure that taints my view a tad, but tR feels more epic to me than Origin. Origin feels like a great collection of singles whereas tR feels like a fleshed out album, i.e. listen from beginning to end as one piece. I'm a big prog fan so that style is right up my alley.

Plus it has undeniable Queen, Gershwin and TSO influences that work really well with their style.

Re: Best and Worst in Rock 2009

i'm not into music as much as i used to be but my favorite is

Green Day 21st Century Breakdown. Favorite song is Peacemaker. the Mexican street band sound is great.

Nickelback's Darkhorse is pretty good. Burn it to the Ground is my favorite even
before the video came out.

3 Doors Down came out with an OK album. Train and It's Not my Time were pretty good. Citizen Soldiers was OK but gets annoying after a while. Most of it is stuff that belongs in the middle of a Genius Playlist.

Daughtry's new album sounds pretty from the one song i've heard so far. From the last one my favorite was What I Want.

Muse sounds OK

U2's new album was so so. still can't remember any songs from it

Them Crooked Vultures sounds nice from the one free song i've heard so far

technically Kelly Clarkson and Pink sound like rock. My 2 year old son seems to have liked every video they have released this year. Even Funhouse.

I'm with you on the Pearl Jam. 100%!

As for Muse, as much as I love that band, The Resistance just hasn't done much for me. Compared to the rest of their catalog, I've barely played it, and when I do, it doesn't stick with me.
