I'll still watch Fringe but its not something I go out of my way for every week or ever feel was so good I need to rewatch it. Fringe is strictly for Hulu on Saturday morning.
Just curious, has there even been one episode you liked? You didn't like this episode and I recall you hating the season finale last year. And why do you keep comparing the show to the X-Files all the time? IMO, that's no way to enjoy the show. Yeah, it has some similarities, but the show IMO has already established it's own identity and mythology. Seems like your more or less just forcing yourself to watch this because it's gotten alot of notice recently. I think isn't a rip-off of the X-Files, but more paying an homage to it for setting the standard in this genre.

I personally hated this episode. They borrowed liberally from WKRP in Cincinnati, what with people walking around, talking, and wearing clothes and all that. Can't the writers come up with something unique without cribbing from WKRP? I mean, they even had a car radio that was playing talk and music before the opening credits even rolled!

Sure. I wouldn't be watching it if there weren't aspects/eps I liked.

Wait. How dare I occasionally compare yet you say the show is swimming in the same water? Maybe I like the things that Fringe does that are inventive and even unique so much that makes me less forgiving when they blankly trot out some rote scifi device I've seen before, particularly ones used in the show that you admit bore a big influence on it.

Whatever, Sherlock.

I like the show well enough, but they consistently hit little lags not just with plot/character points but in the actual execution that keep it, in my opinion, from being a phenomenal scifi show.

Okay fair enough. Didn't intend to insult your criticism. You made your points and you articulated them well.

A direction established and not really touched upon in this episode. Dollars to donuts she's going to go back in that goddamned tank to unlock her memories. Either that or what we're seeing this season is still in the alternate universe we saw at the end of the last.

Re: Fringe -- Season 2 Premiere -- "A New Day in the Old Town" -- 9/17/09

I'm pretty sure the episode was in our universe.

It's apparent to me that the car scene showed her crossing from one universe to the other... it was empty, then "pow" there's Olivia. The last time we saw her, she had crossed into the Twoniverse and was standing in William Bell's office high up in the World Trade Center.

For this episode to be in the Twoniverse, she would've had to have to have been in the Oneiverse and then crossed over into the cab. That means she had to have crossed back to the Oneiverse first, since she was already in the Twoniverse in Bell's office.

It makes more sense to me for her to have crossed back from the Twoniverse into the Oneiverse when she materialized in the cab.

Complicated, sorry. Easier explanation - it's not the Twoniverse because there weren't any burning buildings.

Also, Peter was present and Charlie didn't have his scar.

If this episode was not in the 2nd reality (and it didn't seem like it was) then there must have been at least one more jump back since the end of last season's finale. Olivia was in an elevator when she jumped into Bell's universe, not driving a car. She would have had to jump back, get in her car, and jump again just before the accident to make any sort of sense. Unless we are dealing with multiple Olivia's as well, who could have been driving Olivia Prime's car and jumped out before Olivia Prime jumped back in.

And let me add, I hate, Hate, HATE when shows deal with diverging realities that contain all the same people. Assuming the split didn't occur after they were conceived, it's likely many of the same people would have never been born.

Spoiler:
I wonder if the "hidden" item is Peter, and the man in charge of the assassins is the Walter from the other world.

Walter is crazy in this world, but maybe not in that one. Maybe all the technology that Walter is remembering was also created in that world by Walter who is PISSED about his missing son

Why do you have to exit the same way you entered? Perhaps the car and her body transitioned at different points in time.

I believe the new FBI agent was quicly reviewing Peter's background and "combat training" was amongst her overview.

I thought she jumped to the alternate when she was in the car driving to her meeting with Nina. The other car came out of no where and Olivia stepped on the brakes and then there was a kind of flash. That's why Nina didn't meet her in the restaurant.

Re: Fringe -- Season 2 Premiere -- "A New Day in the Old Town" -- 9/17/09

Finally got caught up on Season 1 (i still had a few left...) so I was at last able to watch this episode. There is a lot going on, and A LOT of possibilities.

It seems as if there is not a new episode this week, so I'm gonna watch the other four from this current season and get completely caught up by then.

Love this show.

So I'm doing a full rewatch of Fringe--my first since it originally aired. I just watched the first two episodes of season 2 and when a certain new character shows up I was like, " Hey, thats...!" Then I searched for this thread and you guys were all over it even back then.

I didn't know who Meghan Markle was way back then, so it was kind of a surprise to start up this episode and see the future Princess in a guest role on Fringe. This episode seemed to be setting her Agent Jessup up as a possible recurring character, but then she only shows up very briefly in the next episode and then no more after that.

Sophie Winkleman who played Zoey on Two and A Half Men married a cousin, or something, of Queen Elizabeth. She's now Lady Fredrick Windsor and part of the royal family.
