Well, there are "Last DVD" and "Last HD-DVD/Blu-ray" you watched threads, as well as the 2010 "Rank 'Em as You See 'Em" thread. You can find a link to that one in my signature (though it takes you directly to my post, you should be able to find the thread easily enough from there).

Just bumping this for the Sucker Punch thread.
Everyone can read their tired 'big and stupid and fun' vs 'dumb' vs 'it ain't no Citizen Kane' arguments and save some time from rethinking and retyping the same stuff they had two years ago.

Let's jump to the other end of the spectrum for a moment. Just because a movie takes itself seriously does not mean it's high art. I liked Ryan's Daughter more than most, but I defy anyone to argue it's not a tediously long movie taking itself entirely too seriously.
My point being, there are a lot more complexities and nuances to criticism.

I want action movies to be good. Yes, I liked I like The Expendables but it ain't a good film. It's pretty mediocre actually. TF2 wasn't a good film. It had a pretty good intro....that the rest of the film couldn't overtake..why? Cuz something called....the actual plot got in there..and it was bad. Horrible actually. Humor was bad and cliched...not even fun cliche.

I once had the misguided notion that I was somehow a more mature viewer by nitpicking everything about a movie; sort of the attitude of actively looking for reasons to complain and daring the movie to avoid detection. Since then, my philosophy has largely become one in which I try to focus on what works and appeals to me; things to praise. I'm still acutely aware of flaws and shortcomings, but I find that as long as a movie earns enough goodwill from me, I can generally forgive them. It's a philosophy that's made life in general less aggravating, and I find I enjoy movies much more this way. I don't see it as willful ignorance, so much as a reversal from willful negativity.

Transformers 3 Screenwriters Still Apologizing For Transformers 2
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is akin to an $800 million grossing bad penny. The thing won’t go away! Speaking to THR during a roundtable discussion of screenwriters responsible for the coming batch of summer blockbusters, Revenge of the Fallen scribes Ehren Kruger (who also wrote Transformers: Dark of the Moon) and Roberto Orci were once again faced with answering for the derisible 2009 sequel.
As you may recall, the legacy of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is so tarnished that even previously cheerleading director Michael Bay has basically disowned his work. As the director told Empire:
“We made some mistakes. The real fault with [Transformers 2] is that it ran into a mystical world. When I look back at it, that was crap. The writers’ strike was coming hard and fast. It was just terrible to do a movie where you’ve got to have a story in three weeks.”
It certainly must be, judging from the plot and dialogue in Transformers 2. Not that Orci and Kruger have any hard feelings — in fact, they seem surprised the film happened at all.
Orci: Two weeks before the [2007-08 writers] strike, we handed him a 30-page treatment, then he went off, he turned it into 70 pages. He started prepping the movie, and because of the time constraints he got totally locked in. We were locked in a hotel room for three months because the strike had just ended, and it was five blocks from Michael’s office. So it was me, Ehren and Alex [Kurtzman] in a hotel room every day so he could drop by at noon, see what we had, take pages, and then go prep the movie because it’s gotta go shoot!
Kruger: Many of those things, under a normal process, would have been considered a first draft outline. And then suddenly you’re locked into some of those things. And at that point it becomes very difficult — and very expensive — to try to rework macro ideas.
The script for Revenge of the Fallen was kind of like a first draft outline. You don’t say, Ehren! Here’s hoping with additional time, Kruger was able to turn in more than just an outline for Transformers: Dark of the Moon before shooting commenced. Otherwise, 30 Rock might be very prescient: by the time Transformers 5 rolls around, it has a good chance of being written by no one.

Marketing bullshit. If they think it was shit now, they had to have known it was shit then. The fact that they stood by the piece of shit #2 because they had to doesn't make me trust them any more on this.
I'm still out.

I couldn't care less about #3 (movies that, in general, exist to show off effects don't interest me so much anymore.), just thought it was funny.

Oh, I know. I'm just calling it like I see it. It just feels like they're trying to apologize for hitting me to get me to come back to bed.

I accept the second film was shit. But the first one was good. So I keep hoping the third is like the first.
That said, the second film had better pacing than the first. The first has this odd lull after the Autobots arrive (the whole sequence in Sam's house).

I too hope for TF3 to be "good"...or at the very least...better that TF1.

a movie based on a toy line/kid's cartoon about giant living robots from outer space that have to verbally communicate with each other instead of sending data back and forth like normal computers and these guys think it's high art

The first film toyed with that notion in the way the Decepticons comunicated with one another (like when Starscream would issue orders). But then they screw that up when the Autobots would speak in English (with no humans in earshot) and when Megatron and Starscream had their brief conversation.

If they were under a deadline because of the looming strike why didn't they dust off one of the scripts from the old tv show? The worst episode from the first season was better than both Transformer movies.

That is a badass banner.
Michael Bay Previews Transformers: Dark of the Moon!
EDIT: Let's see if it works better as a link.

I don't like either Transformers movie (and this is not without trying. I have watched them, and not only did I think they were both boring, but I also found both films to be the most scandelous waste of money I had ever seen thrown at the screen). Bay hasn't made an all-around good, entertaining film since Armageddon, and that says a lot (Pearl Harbor only had the destruction of Pearl Harbor itself and nothing else to offer). If Bay wants to prove to me that Transformers: Dark of the Moon is worth it, then he'll have to do a lot of convincing and stop all PR bullshit statements. In other words: Don't promise us something you can't deliver. If I was a filmmaker, I would be weary of making statements like that.

Seriously? 5 out of 5.....
