That's a copout. Just because something is only a TV show doesn't mean criticisms become invalid. You could say that about every form of entertainment. It's only a movie. It's only a CD. We express criticism because we want smarter writing.
We understand the difference between a popcorn show and the Wire. Don't think we are holding it up to the standards of shows such as that. But there has to be SOME attempt at continuity and logic or people are going to get annoyed. You can't tread your audience as mindless and not expect them to be frustrated at the content.

So what if he did? He would still would have to know how to use it. He wouldn't even know what it was since he didn't even know his father had powers. So Pa Petrelli could absorb all his before that happened.

Not a copout. People here voice their opinion that what's happening doesn't work for them, and others voice their opinion that it does work for them. Neither side is invalidated or any more legit than the other. Ultimately it is just a TV show, and people will vote in terms of viewership. Heroes is losing viewers so apparently it doesn't work for them, and apparently cancellation is down the line. That's fine. But face it, the "Glory Days"** of S1 are long gone. So you either stick with it or move on.
based on what I read here on dvdtalk no show is EVER as good as its season one.

However I don't measure a show's quality by whether its viewership shrinks. The problem I have is people dismissing the continuity errors because it's just a TV show. Just say, I like the show, and I don't think the continuity errors lessen the enjoyment. But to say there is no problem with the writing seems like sticking your head in the sand.

Actually the writers can solve all of the continuity problems with one simple thing already established to be possible in the show. Later on this season we discover that someone has been going back in time to change things and what we see as continuity problems are the results of those changes affecting what we know to be true.

Either way, I'm still entertained, warts and all, by Heroes and that to me is what really matters.

That's really sad since those are some of the best shows out there for people who don't limit themselves to everyday television programming.

I always liked Jean Grey because there's something sexy about a gal who can give you a hand job from across the room without touching you. Great at parties!

Finally catching up with this show.
I agree that there were a ton of retcons here. It really is like a comic book, where one writer leaves and then the next writer just does whatever they want with the characters, ruining continuity. The changes just made no sense, other than to try to tie in with episode 1. And these episodes were done with the old writers still in place, right?
I have no idea why they put Elle in this episode, in that role. Her behavior (she seems pretty normal) contradicts pretty much every other time we've ever seen her on the show. At first I thought they shot this episode outside of when they shot the rest of the season, but the next episode references the relationship that Sylar and Elle had.
And the Company turns Sylar into a killer, then has trouble tracking him down in Episode 1? Why not take him down right away, even if they did want to see him use his abilities.
Is Nathan immune to the mind altering abilities of his dad? He wasn't immune to Daddy Parkman's powers later on... why not just wipe his mind instead of trying to kill him?
