Latest eye-sore:

And would someone please inform Sony that you don't charge $19.95 list price for a bare bones catalog title?

DVDBeaver on Garment Jungle. Looks like the transfers in this series are fine, though as I mentioned above the price-point is too high for what you receive.

Also be on the lookout and see if you can spot Al Pacino in THE ANDERSON TAPES towards the end in the background. He's wearing a white jumpsuit and walking around looking down.
It's when the police and everybody else is in the complex trying to figure out what happened.

February 3rd will bring us Five, Our Man in Havana, Getting Straight, Gumshoe and Vibes. Figures we'd get fucking Vibes before Husbands.

If you wait 5 years or so the prices will eventually come down. Sony priced the "Columbia Classics" line at around $20 for years and years, many can now be had for under $10. Still a few hold outs, Bell Book and Candle comes to mind.

Great news - Husbands will include some very nice looking extras! From the film's Criterion Forum thread:
Special features include a commentary with Cassavetes biographer Marshall Fine, as well as interviews with Gazzara, producer Al Ruban (Faces) and cinematographer Victor Kemper (Dog Day Afternoon).
Glad to see Sony treat a catalog title so nicely.

Specs and cover art for Husbands, from DVD Times:
Sony Pictures Home Entertainment have announced the Region 1 DVD release of Husbands (Extended Cut) on 18th August 2009 priced at $19.94 SRP. From director John Cassavetes, Husbands follows three middle-aged husbands, with wives and houses in the New York suburbs, who go on a wild spree after a close friend dies of a heart attack. Ending up in London, the three must confront their own mortality and decide how to spend the rest of their lives.

With a running time of 142mins, features on this Extended Cut include:

* 1.85:1 Anamorphic Widescreen
* English Mono
* English subtitles
* Commentary with Author Marshall Fine
* The Story of Husbands: A Tribute to John Cassavetes

I'm pleased to see this didn't get one of their horrible Martini Movies covers.

And with extras, just like the recent STRANGE ONES! I am glad Sony is finally delivering their library with extras!

Re: Sony's Martini Movies - September 23!

Classy cover! HUSBANDS is probably my least favorite of Cassavetes' films (not counting BIG TROUBLE or A CHILD IS WAITING), but it's still a must have. Thanks, Sony!

Who owns LOVE STREAMS? It was a Cannon title, right? Is that with Warner now, or MGM? Neither choice is very good - if it's MGM, it will never come out. If it's Warner, it will eventually show up on a DVD-R.

Re: Sony's Martini Movies - September 23!

THE NEW CENTURIONS disc is disappointing. It looks like they just "slapped it" into the film chain and let it go...the black levels in the night patrol scenes are HORRENDOUS!

I had to pick up the UK PAL release, for a decent transfer.

It is that bad? I was under the impression this was a recent transfer, as Sony is usually exceptional in their transfers, as they usually master it on Hi Definition..
