re: Trick 'r Treat (2007) w/d: Dougherty

I just watched this and thought it was good, but I need to see it again to form a final opinion.

As for everyone saying it was shelved due to the "children" elements, did WB not read the script before they greenlit this??

re: Trick 'r Treat (2007) w/d: Dougherty

Evidently the script didn't mention the kids age. They expected "teen" actors (Which in Hollywood means people in their late 20's) So WB had more of an issue with the casting than script content. Which raises the question, why didn't they say something during the casting process? Or did they have a wait a see approach? Or were they not even paying attention?

^ I still don't understand why they cared at all. This is an R-rated movie, it is not meant for children to see. With movies like Saw and Hostel out there, did they really think people were going to get up-in-arms over this?

Actually reminded me more of the 80's movie Creepshow. I really enjoyed it and it is just saturated with Halloween spirit. It is now on my must see list in October.

Same.

The only story that remotely interested me was the bus driver one.

Overall, too much hype with too little payoff.

Dull? Really? What did you feel was dull about it. It is not a coventional storytelling and I could see how some people would be off put by that but dull?

It was watchable, but I don't really like it. I just couldn't really care about anything. Just a bunch of horror shenanigans, without much of a point.

I found it mediocre to average. I guess I just read too much of the hype, and was expecting sheer greatness. It was competently made in all aspects, but no part of it really stood out for me. None of the stories had endings that surprised or impressed me. The anthology tied the films together decently, the acting was ok, the gore decent, but it doesn't scream 'must watch again' for me.

I thought it was really good horror flick, creepy and a lot of fun. Much better than any Creepshow or Tales from the Crypt. No real surprises as to the outcomes of the stories, except for maybe the Anna Paquin one, but very well done. Long live Sam, the spirit of Halloween!

I'm breaking out the Blu tonight to get in the Halloween frame of mind.

I couldn't think of a better movie to get the whole 'Halloween spirit' rolling.

Oh yeah sometime last year I got the 'or I'll huff, and I'll puff' line. Great stuff.

I hear ya - there really is no other flick that goes so heavy on the spirit than this one - whether you like, love it, or hate it - there is no denying that. Prob gonna head over to Amazon in the next couple of days to buy it on blu

re: Trick 'r Treat (2007) w/d: Dougherty

The Blu has really dropped in price since last Halloween too. I paid $30 for it because I just had to have it before 10/31 last year. I've seen it since for $10 at Wal-Mart.

The only thing that kind bugged me was:
Spoiler:
The reveal of the bus driver with a photograph burning in the fireplace at the end. All the kids wearing the same Halloween costumes in front of the same bus. "Oh hey, let's pose for a group shot before I murder all of you!"

BB has the Blu for $7.99 right now. That's ridiculous.

Watched this for the first time night. Picked it up from MovieStop on Bluray for $5. LOVED it. Such a great original Halloween classic. Can't wait to watch it again. Lots of great plots and surprises.

It really is an underrated Halloween classic. It just "feels" like Halloween, if that makes any sense. It has quickly become one of the few movies I try to watch every year at this time.

Yeah, I decided to revisit it last night and it still holds up well. I wish it had been better received.

Yup. It has become a tradition for my wife and I to watch it as close to Halloween as possible.

I really can't wait to see the sequel. Supposedly, it is slated for a 2015 release. However, the director is still in pre-production on another movie at the moment, so it isn't looking too good for that date.

I watched Trick 'r Treat just before Halloween this year. Wow! I'm now glad I finally saw it because it was so much better than I honestly expected. (I went in completely in the dark on what it was about.) I liked it so much that I even went ahead and bought a copy when I saw how cheap it was on Amazon.

It's easily one of the best Horror Anthology films out there. I love how seamless it is too through all the story transitions.

Fun facts for fans of the film:

Wow. I've seen the flick several times and never noticed #8. That's pretty cool.

Finally got around to watching this one last night. Hated it.
I'm glad it was only 82 minutes long because I couldn't wait for it to just be over.
