That was a fun game. Anybody know where I can play it?
Nothing better than the phoenix vs. dragon battle. Except maybe the slaughter of knights by the basilisk. Those were the days. Stoolie |
One of the greatest two player games ever.
The NES version wasn't too bad. If you want to try via emulation, that's probably the one to look for. Same gameplay, with minor graphics improvements over the old 8-bit computer versions. There was an Amiga version as well, but I think that would be harder to track down / emulate. If you're looking for something similar on modern systems, The Unholy War on the PSX isn't bad with two players. It's no Archon, though. |
You can get a copy of the ROM from area 64 at classicgaming
http://www.classicgaming.com/area64/ There should be emulators on the main classicgaming vault site. http://www.classicgaming.com/vault/ |
I've still got it for my Commodore 64. :)

I always used the basilisk or unicorn. Their shots moved so fast, they were hard to avoid. I loved that game!
|
you could play it at my place! i still have the game and occasionally pull it out. radical cowabunga 80's fun!

Nice to see that I'm not alone.
With all of this classic gaming fever, one might think a company would release an updated version for one of these new systems. You know, Archon X or something. Imagine one of the epic battles in a 3-d environment. Not to mention the multi-player opportunities. Oh well, for now I guess I'll just keep going to tanman's house to play it. :) stoolie |
Archon 2 for my Commodore was my favorite. You actually got to purchase different creatures and fight in different environments.
Archon Ultra was the re-make from the early 90's. Pretty good game, but I don't think it sold very well. |
old post, but i have the game on PC, the old dos version, funny is how it resets my damn clock to 12AM everytime i play the game, hit me up if you more info on the PC game

Bringing this one back out in honor of the "Older games as pinnacles" thread.
Do you think Archon would work in 3D? I'm envisioning one on one battle in a large area. stoolie |
Archon: Evolution is an enhanced remake of the classic computer game "Archon", from Free Fall Associates and Electronic Arts. New features include a brand new game engine, updated audio and visuals, an all new interface, tweaked computer AI and most importantly Netplay! We've worked closely with the original designer/developer, Jon Freeman, to ensure the already perfect gameplay remains intact and unspoilt. Our aim with this project is to ultimately satisfy the needs of the existing Archon fan base (no easy task), whilst introducing the game to a whole new generation of game players. We hope you all enjoy this, the evolution of Archon... http://www.curvesoftware.co.uk/archon/ http://www.curvesoftware.co.uk/archo...s/board_01.jpg |

can someone point me to the pc version? thnx
|
We were just talking about Archon in this thread. :) Man that game ruled.
|
i downloaded the Palm version and, though it looked really good, it played like crud. The Palm controls just couldn't handle the movement- it bummed me out because I used to play Archon religiously on my Atari 800 way back when. That and M.U.L.E..

I know this is an old thread, but here it comes!!!! I'm stoked. :D
|
Ooooh.. coming for Xbox too!!

Did anybody play the PC game Dark Legions by Silicon Knights? I think it came out around 1994. It was pretty much an unofficial sequel to Archon, but with awesome graphics (for the time). Terrific game, I'd much rather see SK remake it for Gamecube instead of MGS.
Man, now I want to track down a copy and play it again... |
