If you had no gaming system at all and wanted to get either a DC or a PS2 which would you get and why?
Also, can I play my backup copies on a PS2? |
My question would be: why play your backup copies when you can just play the originals, right? After all, they're backups...right? You said so yourself. Yeah, right...
|
well davepack... if you had a 3 year old and a 5 year old handling your original games you would know why you need a backup to let them use. They get everything from scratches to food to slime on them and it's nearly impossible to clean them without scratching them. And coming in every 5 minutes and changing out games for them gets old very, very quick.
But thanks for your input on the DC vs. PS2 ;) |
If it were me I would go for the DC right now because of the price. I have both and I think the DC has the best games out right now. As far as the back up thing goes I do not know how that works with the PS2.
|
Why would you let your 3 and 5 year old handle your brand new PS2 when you yourself says they get crap on them. They can easily ruin the PS2 by getting crap into the drive bay.
|
Get them a Gameboy Advance. They are kind of young for a Dreamcast or PS2. But if you want to get them a console system, I would say get them a N64 or a super nintendo. A SNES would be great for them, since there are a ton of games, the system is cheap and probably can be found used in a lot of places and it is pretty much indestructable.

I would pick DC, cause they play your back ups with no problem.
besides they have much better games then ps2. |

But if I had to choose between just having a DC or PS2 and all games that will ever be made for it, I guess I'd say PS2. |
So that would mean you're a psychic and you can see that the future for the PS2 is better than DC and you've would have seen it coming that you'd be thrown on an island for the rest of your life, and you would have avoided it somehow. |
get dreamcast now, get xbox or game cube later, forget psx2.
so i think dreamcast is better for now, even though psx has more power and potential. |
Just reading this post I remember 2 weeks ago I said the same thing. I was going to wait for xbox which is still a long way off and stick to my DC which I love and still play. BUT I had money saved up for xbox which I can always save up again until it comes out it. But I decided to get PS2 last week and im not dissapointed at all. Every game I have I love and in the coming months games are only going to get better.
As for the kids. I agree at the moment DC is better for them since its cheaper and you can make game backups Capt |
current consensus:
1. Dreamcast in the lead with 3 votes 2. PS2 in a distant second with only 1 vote |
Dreamcast has better Sports Games. GO DC
|
PS2 has better........PS2 games. Go PS2.
|
Super Nintendo. I see no reason why a 3-year-old and a 5-year-old need the newest system. And there's a plethora of fun games available already.

As a matter of fact, I do have a very inquisitive 9-month old. He is very drawn to the entertainment center, where two game systems, a DVD player, home theater receiver, a VCR, and a satellite dish receiver reside. My games are kept in a baby-proofed (locked) cabinet at the bottom of the entertainment center. There's no need to go through the trouble of creating "backups". Your games should be locked away just as you would anything else dangerous to your children, such as household cleaning chemicals and the like.
I'll give you that I failed to add to the discussion, so I'll get back on-topic: I'd go for the DC right now. People claim the DC is "dead". It isn't. Granted, the future may be questionable, but that doesn't change how much fun you can have with the system now. Triple-A titles at great prices are in abundance, and the system is much cheaper in cost. Unless there's some must-have title on the PS2, I can't see the justification of paying that much extra money for it. The DC offers great videogaming at a great value NOW. So, my vote is for DC. :) |
I am having problems making backups for my DC games. Could someone please lend me some guidance? Thanks

Originally posted by bcelmins I am having problems making backups for my DC games. Could someone please lend me some guidance? Thanks B 1. Take the disc out of the case 2. Walk to the kitchen 3. Open the door to the microwave and place disc inside 4. Close microwave door. 5. Set time to four minutes 6. Press 'start'. 7. Watch your game buuuuurn. Hope this helps. |
As someone who has a DC and owned a PS2 since Nov but didn't even open it til about 2 weeks ago...I vote PS2. I have about 20 games for the DC and have only played 2 for the PS2 but the quality is there for the PS2 (ATV and SSX are what I've played) I do like Crazy Taxi, Soul Calibur, and Jet Grind Radio for the DC quite a bit, but I find myself playing ATV more than any of those DC games (well I played JGR alot)
Both are great, but I gotta go with the one on the "upswing" PS2 = brand new, and not going anywhere vs. DC = dying quite early in it's potential life cycle and Sega has done it to us before. (NOT Saying DC is no good, however if your gonna spend between the 2, I say PS2) |
Economically speaking, the DC will set you back $100 - the PS2, $300 - $200 will buy you a lot of games/accessories. For what I've been able to see, the PS2 isn't worth the extra money, esp with all the great (reduced price?) games for the Dreamcast. That isn't to say the PS2 doesn't have good games (I'd like to play DOA and Tekken on it) I just find the asking price a bit high for what it offers. And I don't need a PS2 for a DVD player either.... my two cents....
|
I'm going to vote again for the Dreamcast
|
My vote is for DC.
the games are boat loads!! Think about all the animated fighting games on DC that Capcom has brought over to them! MvC2, SNK VS CAPCOM, etc. and other parties Guilty Gear X. dream cast is the mother of fighting games on any platform. and don't tell me tekken tag is up to the bar compared to the amount of titles DC has.. ooooh the bouncer... -rolleyes- the game sucks monkey nuts! |
Right on Jacky. As of now the DC uses the PS2 as a pooper-scooper. I just wonder how long it will take for that to change.
