Their approach to covering the game industry seems very biased and not professional at all. Any time they reviewed/wrote about a PS2 product, they though it was great. Through out the rest of the magazine they were praising the X-Box and slamming the PS2. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that the same company will be producing and X-Box magazine. I am not a fanboy, but(actually all of the X-Box articles sounded like they were written by fanboys), but I would like to see some fairness and consistency.

This magazine made its deput when Saturn and PS1 and N64 were on the horizon. They used to use nice grade paper and be fair and honest. They used to be objective. They used to be a good magazine.
Honistly I don't subscribe anymore, but I read a bit at the newsstand. In general they just suck. They always have some bias present in their articles. Which is fine if they would admit to it. But they try to push it off as an professional look into the industry etc. yuck |

People constantly complain about NextGen being biased, from every angle. Read the 'letters' section sometimes; they enjoy putting "you're in Sony's pocket" letters next to "you're in Microsoft's pocket" ones, etc.
In my experience, they remain the best gaming mag out there. And I've read 'em all. |
Well, it's no Electronic Fun With Computers & Games. ;)
I still read Next Generation. The main reason why I do is the same reason why I was so enthusiastic about it when it came out -- it's the only magazine with a real feature article every month. It has high ambitions and is at worst a good complement to all the game-focused or system-focused mags. However, I've never subscribed until just now -- my subscription to ODCM is about to be converted to Next Generation. Having "Revolutionary" as their top rating is idiotic, though. On top of the fact that their reviews have always been their weakest and most pointless section. [Edited by burbz on 03-10-01 at 01:10 AM] |
Originally posted by CreatureX I liked the old style paper as well. Another thing I hate about the "NEW" Next-Generation is the switch to the trendy wider magazine format. The wide format makes the mag harder to hold when you're on the crapper. |
