The GBA will basically be a SNES and that system had 6 buttons. Why 2 for GBA? Tony Hawk 2 will need more than 2 buttons and they could easily fit a couple more on the front and maybe a couple more on top.

---

Upon further inspection, it does have 2 buttons on the top, but X and Y buttons would have been nice.

This is a worthy question. I remember it had been brought up to nintendo before. If I recall correctly it was a matter or space (the GBA is really quite small) and a matter of simplicity.

Also you must recall that most SNES games only used 2-4 with the exception of certain games (fighting etc.) But hey, the genisis managed to survive quite a while with only 3. I would have liked 4, oh well, maybe its for the best.

Most games don't need more than 4 buttons, which the GBA has counting the shoulder buttons.

Ps... I'm bored cause Unreal crashed

Yeah but for a game like Tony Hawk 2 or a fighting game like Street Fighter it will be difficult to use the GBA. Maybe they can pull it off, we'll see.

NGPC = Fighting Game Heaven

If you want to see Street Fighter (or some of it's characters at any rate), Samurai Shodown, King of Fighters, etc. work perfectly on a handheld with only 2 buttons you have to check out the Neogeo Pocket Color. This system does it perfectly. Tapping is light punch, while pressing gives you strong punch -- and it's all so easy too.

Of course I give the GBA major points off before it even leaves the starting box because they stuck with the classic (and crappy) Nintendo D-pad. If they wanted to provide a good all around experience, they would have been much better off with developing a joystick like the NGPC.

I'll probably buy a GBA for the RPG's and whatnot, but I'm not looking forward to the blisters I'll develop as a result.

edit -- I don't know if the rest of you can see my pics. i can't for some reason. here's the website I pulled them from at any rate: http://www2.neogeo.co.jp/en/hard2/index.html

would it have anything to do with the fact that i have paintshop pro set up as the program my files associate themselves with?

Feneant were you a former employee of nintendo and got fired or something? All of your posts are highly anti-Nintendo. Which doesn't make much sense, do to the fact that they are one of the large inovaters in the gaming industry... hmm to bad.

Unless you invested your life savings into the virtual boy be a success, I can't understand why you would constantly attack them.

PS. 1+1=2 The GBA has 4, 6 if you count select and start. How do you account for the other 2 main buttons?

You really only need 4 buttons for Tony Hawk. I never use the shoulder buttons to spin because you can't stop the 720 once you start it. If you just press left or right while in the air you'll spin the same, but you can let off and just do a 540 if you see you're not going to make it. Plus Tony Hawk for GBA will be a 2d games so it will play a lot different. The GBA has pretty much no polygonal 3D capabilites. They say they might be able to do something like the orginal SNES Starfox. For fighting games, just have high/low punch, and high/low kick, and the problems solved. I mean Soul Calibur only used 4 buttons not counting the triggers to sidestep, and since all GBA games will likely be 2D you won't need to side step.

Actually word on the street is that the GBA is capable of some pretty neat polys. See http://www.dailyradar.com and look at a game calle EVO. The effects have been compared to the quality of Playstation.

Also, one could also creat a 2d game were 3d graphics are represented in 2d. Thus "Side stepping" could be put in etc. The GBA is capable of quite a bit.
