on the original ps you could press select while listening to a cd and you would get a cool on-screen pulsating light thingy that you could adjust...very cool. the ps2 doesn't seem to have this feature. what's up with that? or does it have it and i just don't know how to turn it on?

I've seen this one asked before, and never heard a soluition. So, it seems the answer is no, sorry.
Of course, one of the cool things with the PS2 is that newer games will update the bios automatically when first loaded. The intro animation is supposed to "evolve," too. So, keep checking, you might just find it.

do you think that it's possible that when the hard drive add-on comes out they could come out with music software for it? kind of like a winamp for the ps2. that would be very cool.

The cool light show on the later Playstations was a condensed version of a Japanese PSX title. Can't remember the name though. (damn senility) Don't know why Sony left it off the PS2. Maybe they can add something later. Just hope the new bios update really does fix the DVD problems though. Of course it will cost me $50 to find out.
