Retro gaming sticks
My Facebook ads have been taken over by retro gaming sticks. They sound too good to be true. About $50 for 60,000 games across 50+ consoles/older computers.
Anyone dive into one of these? Or the similar cheap handhelds? Or the pricey handhelds like the Lenova Legion or Asus Rally? |

I have an Asus Rog Ally and use it all the time, love it, have had it for almost a year and a half, got it on release day. I use it mostly for Disney Speedstorm and Disney Dreamlight Valley. Travelled a lot with it.
Trevor - I don't think I would trust the ones which come with games. Those clearly don't care about copywrite issues. However, I've heard nothing but great things about the Retroid Pocket 5 if you are comfortable setting up the emulation on your own. Retroid Pocket 5 Handheld |

That's not what Trevor is referring to. There are tons of handhelds that run either Raspberry Pi or Android, for the sake of emulation. These are FAR cheaper than a Win 11 handheld like the Ally.

Re: The Video Game Deals Thread
I didn't notice their last line mentioning the Win 11 devices. I'm aware of what it is; I have one, too.
If this would be purely for emulation, a Win 11 handheld is overkill IMO. The RP5 is a great piece of hardware for about half the price of a full Win machine and can handle emulating basically all retro consoles. |
Re: The Video Game Deals Thread
Yeah, I worded it pretty open to cover all my bases. On the go Heroes of Might and Magic 3 is my main goal, but not sure how well that works without a mouse or large touchscreen.

Re: The Video Game Deals Thread
Yeah, that one would be tough. I don't think any of the emulation devices would work since that game never got a release outside of Windows (that I'm aware of.) You would need a Windows device to install and play it. The Ally would work fine, provided the game has gamepad control option.

Re: The Video Game Deals Thread
You can hook up a mouse either wired or wirelessly to the Ally.

Re: The Video Game Deals Thread
That kinda eliminates the "on the go" aspect Trevor was looking for, though.

And does he mean on the go on the bus or on the go at a hotel while he travels? https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/dvdtalk...be35ba81f0.png |

Not with a compact bluetooth mouse.

Goldberg74: I'm splitting this into the DVDTalk Adul.... oh shucks.

Re: Retro gaming sticks
I too have seen a ton of ads for these types of devices... problem is, when you dig into them, they're getting rather poor reviews. I wouldn't expect much from a $50 product that over-delivers.
