Which Switch game should I play first?
 

so everyone knows i got the Switch today. should have it set up by this weekend. calling on yous to choose my first game of the ones i got or perhaps another. appreciate all the recommendations.

Breath of the Wild is fabulous and should be played before Tears of the Kingdom.
Super Mario Wonder is great. So is Odyssey.

Good call on Odyssey Deck. Didn’t even know it existed. Looks terrific. Just bought it. These Switch reviews for these games are like all above 90%. It’s crazy.

I'm trudging my way through SMB: Wonder right now. It's not doing much for me (I'm on world 6). Similarly SMB: Odyssey didn't move the needle either. There are some fun levels in there but as an obsessive in-game "item collector," there is just too much to collect. It's overkill. I'd recommend Bowser's Fury over both of those games. That was a 5 star Mario game, albeit too short.

Metroid: Dread was got on my nerves and I hate played Breath of the Wild to completion. I'd put Pikmin 4 above every game in the poll. Same for Yoshi's Crafting World. One unlikely recommendation, Super Mario Party which added a pretty damn fun white water rafting co-op mode. So yeah, the Switch has probably my least favorite [original*] game lineups of any Nintendo console.

*original meaning "completely new game for Switch" and not just a WiiU port, which rules out a few dozen games.

That's certainly an opinion. I have the exact opposite opinion as do most Nintendo fans judging by the ratings of the Switch installments of these franchises. IMO the Switch Nintendo lineup is the best they've ever had and has some of the best installments of their major franchises since the SNES days.

Mario Odyssey is easily the best 3D Mario game IMO.
Mario Wonder is the best 2D Mario game since Super Mario World.
Breath of the Wild is the best Zelda game since Link to the Past.
Metroid Dread is the best 2D Metroid game since Super Metroid.
Animal Crossing New Horizons is the best AC game
Pikimin 4 I haven't played yet but I've heard it's great
Mario Kart 8 is the best MK game, granted they've had like 10 years to make it into what it is.

Just this lineup would make the system worth it. Then you add in Luigi's Mansion, Kirby, Super Smash Bros, Splatoon, etc.

I'm so excited for you OldBoy. This is the strongest generation that Nintendo has ever had.

Personally, I'd start with Mario Odyssey.

^ I am a great admirer of the Metroid franchise and have always wanted to play the games I never could after GameCube, but a nice colorful Odyssey game seems up my alley as well. I think I'm scheduled to get both of them this week, but I am not sure. so far, i've picked up: Luigi's Mansion 3, Breath of the Wild, and SM Wonder, Odyssey should be in hand tomorrow. Unfortunately, the Metroid games are not till first week of Dec. :( Will also have Bayonetta 3 tomorrow, but I want to start from the beginning of that franchise and the other 2 are scheduled to arrive next week.

Super Mario Wonder is fairly short, so that isn't a bad starting point. It's also wildly entertaining.

I absolutely loved Breath of the Wild.

I believe I picked those both up this morning. so Wonder is a possibility. not sure I want to get swept up in the Zelda madness just yet. I saw the How long it takes to beat and it was like over 100+ hours for all the 3 Zelda's i'm getting. that's daunting in it's own right, but I can confirm I got Breath of the Wild and SM Wonder today.

Can you change where games download? Like if I want everything to download to microSD, can that be changed, the installation process?

With a 97% metacritic score, I think I’ll go with Odyssey which I should have by tomorrow night.

That's a great point. The music is excellent.

Between the two I'd pick Odyssey to start. It's the latest and most impressive 3D Mario game so it will be the most "impressive" to you when getting a new system. The biggest wow factor. I absolutely love Wonder but it's a 2D Mario game so it's a bit old school in terms of gameplay and has more charm than wow.

Odyssey wins by a nose. Though I do plan on playing Space Harrier 2 some more.

Is there an easy way to close down a game? I turned Switch on today and it was still playing Space Harrier 2.

And then I tried to close it and it still showed as Sega was still playing on home screen.

I don’t even remember what I did to finally close it.
