Re: 2023 Black Friday Video Game Deals

Cliff Notes:
Target Hogwarts Legacy $30 best deal so far

Walmart Resident Evil 4 and Star Wars Jedi Survivor $30 best deal so far

You can get some PS4 versions cheaper, but you have to pay extra to upgrade from the PS4 to PS5 version for newer games like God of War Ragnarök.

Re: 2023 Black Friday Video Game Deals

I bought:
Dredge Deluxe Edition PS5 for $19.99
Marvel's Midnight Suns PS5 for $19.99
Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope Cosmic Edition for $14.99

I'm going to bed. I'll try to update the thread tomorrow. It doesn't seem like Best Buy is going to have a sale on Hogwarts. It seems like Target is the place to get it for $30 starting on Sunday.

Re: 2023 Black Friday Video Game Deals

We don't have the PS5, just the PS4 (although that $500 PS5 bundle with Spider-Man 2 is VERY tempting) so i have two questions:

But that game isn't for PS4, too, right?

Jedi Survivor is for PS5. PlayStation direct is for physical games. The PlayStation digital store has digital games on sale now. Some are a little cheaper or a little more expensive than physical.

Thank you.

Yeah, wow, $500 for a disc PS5 amd controllers at $50. This may be the year we go for it. Anything else people get with it to set it up. Is it still necessary to upgrade the SSD before setup?

if you find an inexpensive but compatible SSD, go for it, but I’d say hold off. You shouldn’t need one for awhile.

The SSD is small, but you can have a decent amount ofgames on it depending on file size. Some games are over 100 GB. Some are 5GB. You can always upgrade it later.

Re: 2023 Black Friday Video Game Deals

All true, though I remember how convenient it was to put in a new SSD right at setup for the PS4.

There are some 4TB SSD at my local Micro Center on sale this week for under $200 each.

Good deal overall, but wow, a console, 3 extra controllers (we do a lot of multiplayer), an SSD, and a few games, even with all of those on sale, adds up to nearly $1000. We may go for it, but wow, it's a reminder why we didn't go for this yet!

If you plan on three extra controllers, I would recommend the controller charging stand, for two at a time charging. Maybe even two in your case.

That's a great deal, but again, make sure it's compatible. Last thing you want is to buy one and find out it doesn't meet the PS5 minimum spec for data speed;
It needs to be a PCIe Gen4 x4 M.2 NVMe SSD with a capacity of between 250GB and 4TB. The sequential read speed of the drive needs to be at least 5,500MB/s and "effective heat dissipation" is required. In other words, Sony wants you to use a heatsink on the drive to ensure temperatures are kept under control.
If it doesn't meet that, the PS5 will reject it.

edit: looks like the Crucial 4TB may be the way to go! At $179, that's ridiculously good.
https://www.microcenter.com/product/...2-internal-ssd
edit2: ehh... maybe not? The sequential read speed is lower than what PCMag said the spec was. hmm... otherwise, it seems like it should work.
edit3: all gen4 drives should be fine, even if the speed is a tiny bit lower. I say go for it!

M.2 2280 M Key Internal SSDPCIe
Gen 4 x 43D NAND Flash
Read Speed up to 4,800MBps
Write Speed up to 4,100MBps

Re: 2023 Black Friday Video Game Deals

Just to chime in, you don't really want to replace the existing SSD in the PS5, you'll want to buy an M.2 NVMe SSD (as described above) to put into the extra slot. That may be obvious but it is nothing like the PS4 so I just want to make sure.

Re: 2023 Black Friday Video Game Deals

Ah, thank you. Hence, why people are saying you can wait and install it later. Thank you. I really haven't looked at any of this since the whole thing has been out of our price range until potentially now.

Re: 2023 Black Friday Video Game Deals

The other thing is, you can also use an external non-SSD drive (like if you have a PS4 one that you're using) on the PS5, but you can only play PS4 games from there (you can also store PS5 games on there but not play them, to play them you have to move them back to one of the internal drives). But this does help mitigate the need for extra storage early on if you're playing mainly backward compatible games.

I’m not seeing any deals on one year of PlayStation Plus Essential. Sony is only offering the standard one year for $79.99….

I think you get 30% off but only for a new subscriber (or if you upgrade a current sub).

Yeah they're only offering me one year for $79.99. This stinks. The days of getting Black Friday deals on PlayStation Plus it seem to be gone.

Yeah I saw some people say that they got 20% off extending their sub through the app without upgrading but I don't see it on mine... maybe you have to be closet to expiring (mine doesn't until March)

But as predicted these sale prices are basically what the sub used to be before the recent price hike.

The PSN Store Black Friday sale is live now.
Thinking about getting RE4 Remake for $39 since a free VR update is coming. Probably will get Synapse at $25. Still on the fence about Last of Us Remake . $40 is the best price yet but I keep thinking they'll add it to PS Plus Extra....
