Re: 2023 Black Friday Video Game Deals

After going back and forth a bit this week, I've decided not to get a PS5 this time around. First, I'm just too dang busy to really sit down and enjoy a few of the new games. Second, I have a big backlog of PS4 titles that are either half-complete (Spider-Man, some Lego games) or not started (South Park, Star Wars Squadron, Guardians of the Galaxy). Third, my kids have plenty of good games at their fingertips and they're not complaining about not getting to try Spider-Man 2 or Hogwarts Legacy yet. I will say this week got me more motivated to get us going on how our PS4 is setup overall and we played together more in the past few days I had off than we have in a long time, so we are still getting a lot out of this time of thinking about the PS5 plunge. Thanks, everyone, for your advice here.

Not sure this has happened before but I haven't really bought anything. I did buy two of the new metallic PS5 controllers last week, but nothing else has caught my eye that I need to buy.

I bought a digital copy of Street Fighter 6 at the Playstation store for $39.59. Saves me a little money from the physical version.

$500 is a big investment of time and money for a new console and games. I don't fault you for passing for now. If you don't have the time, it's smarter fiscally to wait.

I had a $35 reward at Best Buy, so I grabbed a second DualShock PS5 controller for $15.

Then from the PlayStation Store I got the HFW: Burning Shores DLC (PS5) for $12.99 and It Takes Two (PS4/PS5) for $11.99.

That will do it for me.

$500 is sure. $350 was kind of a no-brainer though.

… but once you start throwing games on that receipt it can really build into something too big (and I think that contributed to DJariya’s rationale of story’s post).

Re: 2023 Black Friday Video Game Deals

The GameStop sale in October kinda wound up being my Black Friday; most of the games I was waiting to pick up on BF wound up being much cheaper than they were over the past few days (like the Hell-A edition of Dead Island 2 for $22.50; anywhere from $45-$50 on Black Friday).

And some of what I was expecting to be at a steep discount -- especially Immortals of Aveum -- weren't really at that compelling a price point. So I wound up not buying anything gaming-related, at least not for myself...and very little on the movie side of things, despite some genuinely incredible prices, largely because I'd already picked up so much of what was discounted.

I was hoping for Immortals of Aveum to be in the $19.99 to $29.99 range, but it wasn't. I would have bought it if was that low. This was a pretty disappointing Black Friday for me.

Yeah the only stuff I bought for Black Friday was manga. All the games on my PSN wishlist that I want to play before the end of the year none of them were on sale.

Re: 2023 Black Friday Video Game Deals

I finally got around to installing the Samsung 980 Pro M.2 2TB SSD (with heat sink) that I picked up for $140 back in July.

It’s now $120 on Amazon for Black Friday/Cyber Monday. It was a breeze to install.
Limited-time deal: SAMSUNG 980 PRO SSD with Heatsink 2TB PCIe Gen 4 NVMe M.2 Internal Solid State Drive + 2mo Adobe CC Photography, Heat Control, Max Speed, PS5 Compatible (MZ-V8P2T0CW)

Edit to add: I noticed that’s it’s listed as “ships in 1-2 months.” Ouch.

Where and when was a PS5 on sale for $350? Maybe I'm missing something this week?

It was part of a Target circle deal for $350.

Decker made it sound like story already knew about the $350 PS5 deal, but passed. Yeah that deal sold out quick.

You have to follow Wario64 on X like a hawk to learn these deals.

Wow! Yep, I missed that. I probably would've done that. Oh, well. Let it go, man, let it go...
