Re: Ever lose the desire to play?
I play while it's fun to play, as soon as it turns to tedium, I fade away, most often I'll just start over. I'm not in it to beat the game, I'm in it to have fun playing.

Re: Ever lose the desire to play?
Since gaming ranks relatively low on my hobbies list, soon as we had a baby, I nearly stopped playing video games (a bit here and there, but very little comparatively). The issue is that even though I have little time to play games, and there's so many other things I'd rather do, I still buy game that I'd like to play, even if I'll never get to them.

Re: Ever lose the desire to play?
When we moved we put the best game systems in what I call the patio room, and I'm just never there, so my PS5/Xbox Series X gaming has just plummeted; I'd rather spend time with the kids so the Switch gets the most play. Like the only console game I've played in the past couple weeks is Vampire Survivor on Switch co op with the kids. I was never a big FPS player but I was a big rpg player and I didn't even pick up the latest Final Fantasy. Almost every time I've gotten a new game because of some sale, I haven't played it much before it's drastically reduced in price.
Oh actually I was wrong, I did pick up the new Armored Core (because of a sale before it even came out) and played a little of it, but that was the exception. My non-kid time is probably going to be reserved for college and NFL football so yeah I lose the desire to play sit down AAA console games every once in a while. And honestly the other barrier to me is trying to pick a long game back up after being away for a while, especially if I have limited time to game (plus if you haven't played a game in a while you sometimes have to update it which just kills me0

I haven't had the desire to play in over 2 years now. I don't really miss it. Sometimes I will still buy a game if I see a really good deal, and I still pay for PS+, mainly for online gaming for the kids, but I have not been motivated to play anything since I started my transition.

Try something new or different. Something that doesn't feel like work. Some games these days are just so big and complex that I just don't even feel like bothering at the end of a long day. But just driving around for a few minutes in Forza Horizon or something? Now that I can enjoy...

Re: Ever lose the desire to play?
I go through cycles pretty regularly. I only get an hour or two a night to watch/play "my stuff". So I'll go 4 or 5 months just watching TV shows. Then I'll switch and do nothing but play games at night for a few. Then I'll switch and get caught up on movies for a while. I definitely have periods where playing a video game doesn't sound good at all. It always passes after doing something else for a while.

One thing that helps is finding games that you can drop in to more easily.
My wife and I discovered Vampire Survivors a while back and you can finish a stage in under 45 minutes (They're 30 minute timed events, but the clock stops when you level up to choose your next upgrade).
We also play Kingdom: Two Crowns, which can take hours upon hours to finish a run but we've gotten to where we know it so well that we can not play a game for days or weeks at a time, then drop right back in and pick it up.

Until last week i haddent played a game since march. I just had zero motivation to turn on my system but I decided to give one of my backlog a try and now im having fun with it again, I think it just comes and goes in waves naturally for me
