This is my top most game of all time.
That's how all F2P games work. Make people realize how long it would take to get things via playing and dangle the store in their face to get things now.

Yep, can't wait to grind this game for years!!!! New season comes out Tuesday, can't wait!!! And early access getting some freebies then. And honestly this game does have p2w when the monetization is out BUT mostly for cosmetics which I don't care about. The individual part of this game is much larger than the multiplayer, you mostly play against bots (which is what I like).

If the content is cosmetic it's not p2w (unless I misunderstand what p2w is). What can you buy from the store that's p2w?

Re: Disney Speedstorm (Free-to-play, all platforms, 9/28/2023)

So there's two main game modes, individual against bots and multiplayer against other people. The Season Tour which comes out every 6-8 weeks is 100% ind. The dailies for season coins and parts is ind. The weekly upgrade parts which so far is four different events soon to be five is ind. The limited events for parts is ind.

You use parts to get your racers upgraded, and shards to get them to star up.

The multiplayer has three parts. There's regulated MP which everyone is at the same level, it's released once a week, and gives you 10 guaranteed shards and materials of a specific pool of basic racers (10 unlocks them) if you play enough, guaranteed 120 points for coming in last (need to get 5000 for the week).

There's ranked multiplayer for shards and parts, that's the brutal one and the one that could be most p2w as higher racer, more chances to win. Now you could just be good and get to the top also.

Then there's the mid-season racers, 2-3 a season, everyone is guaranteed 20 shards for participating, but the higher you place in the MP limited event, the more shards. After the shards/unlock event there's a limited event for them for parts. I wasn't able to finish it (win at the highest level) because I didn't get enough shards to get them to 3 stars so I was stuck at level 25, just 2 stars, so I missed out on some cosmetics and some parts (that I can eventually get in other places). But I met like 40 out of 44 objectives and each one gives you parts. That's the biggest one where it would make a difference.

Right now you can buy founder's packs (unlimited through an XBOX glitch, buy them for yourself as a gift) and that gives you tokens and with that you can get cosmetics at the store which rotates twice a day. What's available is the luck of the draw. Right now in the store though tokens only get you cosmetics.

Parts and shards are gotten through season coins which can only be gotten through getting objectives in the tour playing and the dailies. You can only get coins through gameplay right now.

In the discord we're all speculating you'll be able to buy coins with tokens and that the store will release more stuff to be able to be bought with tokens.

So right now right now you can't p2w but we're speculating you'll be able to. Also anytime you get anything, shards, parts, cosmetics, your collection level goes up, and there's like 50 collection levels now and they add more each season and getting to each one gets you parts and cosmetics.

Edit: Oh I forgot (because it's so ridiculous but people still do it), in the season tour you can buy tiers at 500 tokens each. We don't know yet but we think it's $1 per 100 tokens because the season pass is 990 tokens we just don't know the conversion yet and we're guessing ten bucks. So it's $5 a tier skip and 50 tiers. Last season I got to tier 55 and this season 59 without spending a token, the extra tiers give you one season box pull. But there's still loot boxes and chests in the tour you have to play to unlock, no other way. So you could "buy" those items. Right now if you bought multiple founder's packs at $70 per 12000 tokens it'd be $146 to unlock a whole season and get everything at once. You get a bunch of shards, parts, season coins.

Re: Disney Speedstorm (Free-to-play, all platforms, 9/28/2023)

They just released S3 about an hour and a half ago including the payment scheme and the microtransactions are through the roof. This is not a good game if you can't contain yourself Definitely P2W, you can buy everything now. I already got my money's worth out of it, so even if it dies quickly, it was a good ride, I've never played a more enjoyable game. (I won't be participating in microtransactions, I will get the stuff through gameplay).

What about the actual...racing? This is a kart racing game?

I'm glad you're loving it so much. This is right up my alley too. I love Disney and I love Mario Kart, but just can't buy in to microtransactions and p2w. Just not doing it.

And enjoy it while it lasts because Disney doesn't have the best track record when it comes to supporting video games.

Re: Disney Speedstorm (Free-to-play, all platforms, 9/28/2023)

I mean I've already played it 160 hours so if I get 300 to 400 hours out of it I'm good. The actual racing is great, it's the only game I can stand to do pvp on. It's fun, challenging, great controls, go ahead and try it next month. I think the reviews have said that mechanically it's at the top when it comes to Kart games.

Just passed 200 hours played. Can't wait for F2P coming up at the end of the month and what events they're gonna have. They're also going to release on mobile. Even if it dies in a year I'll get at least 400 hours out of it. Best game I ever played ever.

I’m sure a lot of us here have taken a break (or will) from BG3 and Starfield to play the juggernaut that is Disney Speedstorm.

Re: Disney Speedstorm (Free-to-play, all platforms, 9/28/2023)

I'm an overachiever, I've played them all I finished one walkthrough of BG3, about to finish one walkthrough of Starfield to unlock NG+, plan to take a break from it to do a playthrough of Lies of P. Speedstorm is my main game and everything else kind of fills in around it. I do find Starfield to be a lot more of a pick up and put down game than BG3 and takes less "thought" so I see dabbling in it more, BG3 takes a lot out of you.

No regrets going at it from day 1, I have every single character leveled out pretty high, this is definitely a show up every day and grind kind of game (and I love every second of it). Wednesdays and Thursdays are sad days because I finish everything for the day in 15 minutes but in less than half a year more seasons will come out and post-season content will fill in those 2 light days, which is when I go heavy in other games.

(Tuesdays give you about 2 hours and Fridays about 90 minutes and Saturdays and Sundays and Mondays about 45 minutes to an hour but I can't portion this out, I play what's out the second it pops up )

My husband said that the funny part is that the game I play the most is the one game without cheats.

Looks like you've been getting lazy these last 2 seasons. A drop of 20+ hours is unacceptable. I expect 100 hours for season 4 to make up for it.

Season one included getting most characters up the ranked ladder. Following seasons only the newer characters. First season also included the starter tour which I finished. I also started getting better and needing less races to accomplish the goals.

GatorDeb, applying Malcolm Gladwell's 10,000 hours concept to F2P racing games!

Well, I'm going to give this a chance (downloading now) based on the chatter from this thread.

At least she’s sticking with something. Normally it’s “this game is soooo much fun” then a day or two later “meh it’s not for me. Too much platforming and the maps aren’t good.”

For me, I know right away. Like when I played Power Wash Simulator. Just not fun.
