Going back to the stealth and sneaking of the first few games of the series is literally their selling point of Mirage. If you don't like that gameplay it's probably not going to be for you.

I'll skip this one then. I hated the public stealth sections of Valhalla.

I’m skipping it for the same reason. That and I never seem to finish AC games.

I hated pretty much everything about Valhalla after the opening cinematic.

Valhalla was fun. A bit repetitive though.

Agree....but overall I really liked the whole game; The Setting with Vikings was spot on, great Main Story and lots of side Stories that were excellent. Combat was spot on with the added dual Weld, various weapon types and shield. The River Raids were fun along recruiting your Raiding Party....there were some tough areas of the game. I finished the main story and some side stuff but didn't get to some DLC.....Mirage looks good, a bit of past games wwith updated Nex Gen visuals...I'll get it down the road but now have four games on my plate...

This is looking really good to me. I just hope the power and usefulness of the eagle is back to what it once was. I played Odyssey for like 90 hours, Valhalla for much less, so now it's just do I get it before Spider-Man or wait...

Skipping this and holding out for their next one - which will be more like their last few, "bigger" games, set in feudal Japan.

I hadn’t really considered whether to buy this, but you mention the bonus, and I snap it up like a Pavlovian dog. At least I’m almost done with Origins.

I was never into stealth, but I’ve been using it more and more in AC and FC. It came up in another thread, but what I don’t like is action games that have a forced stealth mission like Spider-Man. Give me the option of either hacking or stealthing.

After I finished AC1, I took a few years off, then decided life was short and jumped straight to Syndicate, Odyssey, and Origins. So I’m not sure how much this return to the past will appeal to me.

Re: Assassins' Creed Mirage (10/5/23; PC/PS/Xbox)

I’ve never played an Assassin’s Creed game (aside from AC Chronicles: Russia which was free on the XBox).

Would Mirage be a good game to cut my teeth on?

I hope this doesn’t mean you skipped AC2. That’s the best game of the entire series.

I really liked Origins and Odyssey, but they're more action RPGs. It depends on how much you like stealth.

It's definitely pretty.

But I can't say I'm all that excited to play it.

Sad to say I skipped #2. When I got my 360, I got a couple ACs with it free. I finished #1, but played other games after that, but kept acquiring the ACs. I’m a Britphile so I loved the setting of Syndicate and decided to just play it rather than work through the whole franchise.

I do plan to go back to #2 at some point because of all the acclaim.

II (and IV) is definitely the best the series has to offer. I also loved all the puzzles and was disappointed the franchise dropped those.

I bought the disc version for PS5. I had some reward certificates to use at Best Buy.

Re: Assassins' Creed Mirage (10/5/23; PC/PS/Xbox)

I played through the first half-hour yesterday, and it’s all sneaking around, pickpocketing, etc. I can knock guys out from behind, but I have no weapons. I’ve punched myself out of a couple spots, but in one case all I could do was run and dodge. I’ll stick with it and see how it develops.

I'm about an hour in, maybe less. I just got thru my training "montage". I'm not jonesing to play but I'll stick with it. Basim and this era feel too much like Origins and he's probably the least intriguing character so far.

Yeah, I'm having a hard time connecting w/ Basim; like you said, just not a very intriguing character. I like him even less for having encountered him in Valhalla. Overall, it's not a bad game but it's not doing much for me. I really want an assassin as badass as Ezio. I know Basim is a beginner in this game but Ezio's counters and kill streaks were so much fun. Many of these more recent versions are just redundant.

Something that is driving me CRAZY is the dialogue when you talk to a shop owner or blacksmith... the inane, redundant back-and-forth is maddening.

I keep hitting circle (I think) to skip all that dialogue. You're right, it's terrible.

I finished the story over the weekend and had to read an explanation of the ending to fully understand the backstory/connection to events in Valhalla. Last night I finished the last few remaining map quests (gear chests, Tales of Bahgdad, historical sights). I still have to find a few Enigma treasures and then I'll be 100% done.

All in all, an okay game with a somewhat unlikable character.
