This video was pretty reassuring as well.

Reading up on it, I feel what she said has been blown way out of proportion. Heck, I like how Eddie Izzard summed it up.

Anyhoo, the game does look good but, had my sister not gushed about it when the trailers first came out, it wouldn't even be on my radar. I might pick it up way down the road on sale. Or borrow it from my sister if/when she buys it.

It's the same old story of believing that twitter actually represents any significant portion of the general public. Game will do huge numbers...and the twitter circus will cry out because someone holds different personal beliefs than they do. Like Bill said... "it never gets old."

Re: Hogwarts Legacy - 2/10/23 (Xbox, PS, Steam)

Again, not to derail the thread, but this is her take:
In a controversial essay published on her website in June 2020, Rowling wrote, "I refuse to bow down to a movement that I believe is doing demonstrable harm in seeking to erode 'woman' as a political and biological class and offering cover to predators like few before it."

Stating that she's a survivor of sexual assault and domestic abuse, she added, "So I want trans women to be safe. At the same time, I do not want to make natal girls and women less safe. When you throw open the doors of bathrooms and changing rooms to any man who believes or feels he's a woman ... then you open the door to any and all men who wish to come inside."
That may not fit someone's bill of transphobic but I can completely understand why people wouldn't feel comfortable with her views and not want to support her. It's not just some misunderstanding.

Re: Hogwarts Legacy - 2/10/23 (Xbox, PS, Steam)

The discussion is important to have but shouldn't really be in this video game thread. I quoted all discussions so far and started a new thread in the Political Forum.
I hope that's okay with everyone.

Ugh, Amazon now saying it will arrive March 1st.

Time go cancel and go digital, I suppose. Wonder if I will still get the couple of pre-order freebies?

You mean gameplay for the game none of us are playing because it's not out for another 3 days?

People who bought the digital Deluxe get to play early. Kind of like what Forza does every time there's a new game.

The deluxe edition (physical and digital) is out early. FedEx dropped off our copy this morning. (And, yeah, my wife wrestled with the ethics of supporting Hogwart's Legacy, and I'm sure we'll find some way to try to even things out karmically.)

Check out a copy at the Library? That way she wouldn't be giving Rowling any money.

I only Had a chance to play around an hour. Great opening and I chose Slytherin house

Re: Hogwarts Legacy - 2/10/23 (Xbox, PS, Steam)

I’m not a Harry Potter fan per se, but this grabbed me right from the beginning. Only played an hour or so myself, but those opening credits and opening scene were fantastic.

The fluidity in motion is good, I thought the color palette thus far was a little dull, but I’m sure that’ll change with different areas.

But, casting with R2 is pretty cool and seems as if you had a real weapon. The wand is great and the male voice sounds very Daniel Radcliffe-ish.

But, so far…really fun and very immersive. This will take awhile for me to complete. Can’t wait.

What did you name your character? I chose Old Boy obviously and I’m a male Wizard going with Gryphondor. Why? I dunno. Do the houses have different spells, different storylines?

Beware when online, Anti-Rowlings people are posting spoilers of this game to ruin the experience.

Stepping outside of Hogwarts Castle and seeing the open world for the first time felt like when you walk out to the world of Oblivion.

Hogsmede itself is massive

One thing I loved real early on was hearing the heart beat and feeling it with the DualShock controller. I thought that was excellent.

So far, loving this game. The opening couple hours were slow, but the set pieces were really neat. I'm not a Potter head or whatever, but I like the books and movies, and there are still a bunch of cool and recognizable locations and Easter eggs that I can appreciate.

You guys playing on "normal" level? I'm not really in this one for the combat. I was thinking of switching this one to easy, but I don't know if that just affect the combat or the puzzles too. I'm fine with the puzzles being more challenging.
