uhhhh, Diablo. Blizzard made $666M in the launch week. Not saying MS would pull from cross platform, but it is a huge hit. Being an Xbox exclusive would be pretty huge.

But it's not and Diablo 5 isn't coming out in the next 3 years anyway.

4 years actually. And that's a fair point.

But what if there are expansions or whatnot for Diablo. They could make them Xbox exclusive.

I thought they always offered to keep COD on PS for at least 10 years...

I believe that was a second guarantee after Sony got up in arms and MS realized they may have issues with regulatory stuff. That original deal appears to have offered to keep other multiplatform titles on there until end of 2027. Now they only get guaranteed CoD for 10 years with no other guarantees.

Will COD be even popular in ten years? Remember Guitar Hero? That was a massive Franchise that died out.

It was never this massive
As of April 2021, the Call of Duty franchise had sold over 425 million copies. With these numbers, the Call of Duty franchise is the fourth best-selling video game franchise in the entire world, behind Mario, Tetris, and Pokémon.Feb 16, 2023

Goes to show that there is a good percentage of gamers willing to buy nearly the same product year after year. Imagine if they released a new GTA every other year, people would buy it but the quality would definitely suffer. It's kind of why I wish Microsoft would make COD an Xbox exclusive so that it would force Sony to invest in even more games for their own platform, and likely ones that I would actually want to play.

I know you think that it was a joke and that it went over my head, (ha ha ha Diablo and 666) but as I said, it was a fact.

Diablo IV made over $666 million in five days.

I know it's true and the figure wasn't a joke, you missed that I was poking fun at what are the odds of that being the number for that game.

CoD might not even be Activision's best asset. Activision owns King (maker of Candy Crush Saga etc), which had almost $3 billion in revenue last year and shows no sign of slowing.

Re: Microsoft buying Activision/Blizzard

If the PS servers is any indication for the future of Diablo in the PlayStation ecosystem, then things will be grim and might as well make it an exclusive. There’s constant lags and rubberbanding with the mitigated hiccup during early release for PS owners.

Also it took 11 years for Diablo IV to come out after Diablo 3 and 7 years after Reaper of Souls. Yes, Diablo is a moneymaker but it’s not a yearly release game like CoD.

Re: Microsoft buying Activision/Blizzard

The CMA gave preliminary approval for the Activision acquisition this morning, so for better or worse, this is happening.

Re: Microsoft buying Activision/Blizzard

The CMA’s only major complaint, and their stated reason for the original rejection, was in regard to MS potentially having a cloud gaming monopoly, which was absurd, but MS ended up giving the Activision/Blizzard/King cloud gaming rights all to Ubisoft to handle for the next 10 years in order to compromise. Pretty crazy stuff…

Looking forward to Game Pass going up to $30/month in order to pay this off!

That'll never happen but it would still be worth it.

The CMA finally gave the merger a thumbs-up, so we might see this close today.

Re: Microsoft buying Activision/Blizzard

Yep, with no shade at all! Haha just kidding.
https://www.gov.uk/government/news/m...te-competition
The CMA is resolute in its determination to prevent mergers that harm competition and deliver bad outcomes for consumers and businesses. We take our decisions free from political influence and we won’t be swayed by corporate lobbying.

We delivered a clear message to Microsoft that the deal would be blocked unless they comprehensively addressed our concerns and stuck to our guns on that.

With the sale of Activision’s cloud streaming rights to Ubisoft, we’ve made sure Microsoft can’t have a stranglehold over this important and rapidly developing market. As cloud gaming grows, this intervention will ensure people get more competitive prices, better services and more choice. We are the only competition agency globally to have delivered this outcome.
I think the CMA is likely over-emphasizing the importance of cloud gaming in the short and long term, but considering that was their only major gripe, it makes sense that they would say they’re satisfied with the Ubisoft deal. It lets them save face I guess, given that they were the only agency that seemed to be genuinely concerned about that bit.

*patiently waits for Sekiro to get added to Game Pass in the next 6 months or so…*

Re: Microsoft buying Activision/Blizzard

Kotick's release said he's staying on under Phil "through the end of 2023". That could just mean pending new contract but I'm HOPING it means he's gone in Jan. He's a stain on gaming and needs to go away forever.

Edit: Looks like he is leaving (with hundreds of millions of dollars)! The employees at Blizzard must be cheering right now.
