I wish people would stop bickering over pieces of plastic. Like seriously they're both great consoles with awesome games.

Either the acquisition is in trouble or MS is playing nice? Will soon find out…

They also agreed to make some changes with regard to their app store. I didn't read the details though.

The selling point for those titles will be "free on Game Pass" or $70 on Playstation. Those are games (online multiplayer) that really benefit from a large player base, and it would be unwise for MS to make them single platform.

Single player experiences are more likely to be held platform exclusive.

Wow. That is kind of a surprise. I guess that this move was anticipated by Sony and that's why they didn't do a 10 year Call of Dudy agreement like Nintendo and Steam did.

Re: Microsoft buying Activision/Blizzard

Deal has now is likely to be approved by the EU and in Japan (lol). I don't think the US has a leg to stand on anymore in this fight. The EU info said it would actually be detrimental for MS to pull CoD from PS ecosystem because they make so much damn money from it. I bet it will eventually become exclusive to MS, but not for many many years.

Re: Microsoft buying Activision/Blizzard

Well MS has an agreement of 10 years for CoD on Nintendo and other companies, and offered the same deal to Sony - but Sony rejected it.
It's possible this deal goes through and Sony is left without a deal. Of course it would be dumb of MS to exclude CoD from PS as they'd be turning down a lot of revenue (so they won't exclude PS) - but without an agreement, MS will have more options available to them for the PS (ie. timed exclusive and/or feature-rich versions on XBOX, etc.) .

Does this merger have to be approved in a bunch of different territories in order to happen?

According to the article, it has to be approved in the US, UK, and EU. UK was the first to rule.

Approved in EU. https://www.cnbc.com/2023/05/15/micr...uty-maker.html

I assume the UK will fall iin line with the concessions MS made.

Over at the XBox Faithful YouTube channels, they're celebrating ecstatically over this "Huge Win for M.S"......win, draw, loose it boils down to The Games themselves....

Re: Microsoft buying Activision/Blizzard

I don't know if someone mentioned this or not but, if Microsoft is counting on Call of Duty numbers, I believe the series is literally done for real this time. It started out with a 400 - 500 player-base (both warzone and multiplayer combined) for the first couple of months it was out then literally dropped to around 200,000 thousand and now it's sitting at around 80,000 - Microsoft is going to regret things for sure.

MW2 2022 is easily the worst COD game ever made and it permanently confirms that Activision is perfectly content with never changing the formula......if you don't believe that, see how they already said a new COD wouldn't' be coming in 2023 and it is and it's just MW3 - also, the MW series is Infinity Wad's and they're handing it off to sledgehammer as the primary dev - crazy.

Isn't it like Microsoft to have that kind of luck though? Sure there is more substance to the deal than Call of Duty but COD would have been a big part of it.

Edit: Maybe MW2 2022 isn't the worst COD ever but I do remember being it that way upon release - that's why it lost so many of its player-base. I know people always complain about COD upon release (myself included) but MW2 was a complete disaster and no fun to play at all at release.
