The card aspect of the game concerns me. It seems like it’s tacked on just to add tons of microtransactions.

I am actually kind of surprised that this is coming out tomorrow, given the recent, unspecified delay or the release date.
Reviews are good. So I went ahead and bought the Legendary Edition using discounted PSN credit from Costco. Looks cool.

Back in August I had no idea what it was. Then I read it was by Firaxis and very X-Com like with Marvel content. So I waited for reviews and as soon as I saw they were good, I preordered the digital standard edition.

I played the tutorial part of the game last night. It's actually pretty cool the way they incorporate the card system into the turn based strategy game play. I was concerned that I'd be pretty confused as I sometimes am with card based gaming systems but this one is pretty intuitive and looks quite cool. I'm looking forward to checking it out some more.
I still don't know if it's worth it but I am glad that I got the legendary edition for $30 more than the base game since the season pass when bought separately is a whopping $50! That means every single DLC character pack is probably gonna be $15.

I thought this would be a good game for me, but I don’t play or know what a turn based card game is.
Cool looking though, but not for me.

Think of it as a turn based strategy game, not unlike Mario vs Rabbids or Persona 5 or Halo Wars -- but with Marvel Superheros as your units -- the difference is in this case, what attacks you can pull off is based on which cards are in you hand at the time. Might be an attack, a shield spell or a special limited, more-powerful attack. As you advance in the game, rather than just powering up your heroes, you get better cards with new abilities. The cards introduce a randomness and variability to the battles.

I’m really looking forward to playing this, but hearing that it’s a 50 hour campaign kind of has me squirming in my seat a little.

Yeah the combat is cool. The Superhero friendship simulator, not so much. But I like the game overall.

I've been playing the hell out of this game, and I'm really enjoying it, the combat at least.
I think I'm within sight of the end of the story, so I'm slowing down on main story quests and focusing more on maxing out all of my friendship levels/hero abilities. I only have a few more to go at this point.
