When you are talking about Saints Row 2 or Saints Row 3, you're talking about a very different time in open world gaming. There have been so many advances in the Years since. When I look at something like Grand Theft Auto V and all the things you can do and all the places you can go, this game seems shockingly backwards and shallow in comparison. It doesn't even feel like a full game, just a bunch of mini games connected by a very sparsely populated, largely non-accessible open world map

But in some ways, that’s the appeal (for me, anyway). It’s a nice break from 80 hours-plus open world games, no towers to climb or whatever to defog the map, not as much in the way of bases to capture, no crazy skill trees, no crafting, just one currency, and all that. I can dress as an ice cream cone and smash cars on a hoverboard. I can blast pretty much anyone in the city with a Nerf gun and pretend to punch them, and they'll go along with it. Can I do that in GTA?

And usually, I'm more in the mood for SR's more casual, over the top fun, rather than GTA's more methodical, exacting gamepaly.
Sure one is far more polished than the other, but that rarely gets in the way of the actual fun I'm having.

Even if you compare the new SR game vs the first Watch Dogs game, which wasn't great and like a launch game for the last generation - - that one had a much more lively and vibrant open world. It had a much better GPS system and a real feel of a city with real NPCs. This game doesn't even really have freeways, just long straight bridges. It's really shoddy and superficial for an open world. Even if yes there is some shallow fun to be had here.

It's just more fun to fuck around in, where as I found WD's open world more boring, even though it had more hustle and bustle, it wasn't particularly fun to fuck around in.

There was a pretty big patch for the PS4 over the weekend, not sure what it did specifically, but I played a couple after the patch, and I didn't really come across any glitches. The more I play this, the more fun I have. The first couple hours are definitely a hurdle to get to the far better game that comes later.

Calm down, I was referring to how you replied to me - I was referring to the game as "hollow" because it's poorly done not because it's a saints row game (doesn't even come off as a saints row game to me either).

Most annoying bug so far: the cutscene at the end of Severance Package didn’t show any characters — just invisible ghosts delivering dialogue, the camera occasionally stuck between floors, and at the end, it crashed to the Xbox main menu. Have to do the whole mission over again. Not a big deal since it’s easy and not long, but still…ugh.

It sucks to get locked out of your own car that you've been driving but be able to jump into other cars. Also, does the game really need to pause both players in co-op when you are not in an actual mission. That is unacceptable. I do enjoy going around the map, but it is weird that you can be in a somewhat alive city and drive two blocks over and it seems like a ghost town.

Re: Saints Row (8/23/22) - PS, Xbox, Epic
Finished the last of the main story missions! My save is at 97% total completion. Down to just a bunch of challenges and…well, anything else that counts towards 100%, if that includes fully upgrading weapons or buying every item in every store or something.
I still have two achievements to go: It’s a Bird, which sounds like it’s bugged right now (one of the challenges stops counting after a bit), and the online Pranked one.
I know I’m in a tiny, tiny minority, but I sincerely had a phenomenal time with the game, and I’d even rank it as my GOTY so far (at least if we’re just talking 2022 releases).

I am glad you guys are enjoying it. I really am not. I think it’s buggy, simplistic, shallow, ugly and poorly designed. But to each his own.
I am really looking forward to Gotham Knights which looks to have a vibrant open world and really well implemented online play.

Someone on ResetERA just helped me get it, so nevermind. But I can help if anyone else here wants it.

Xbox is finally getting the two hot fixes that every other platform got ages ago.

I feel this game wasn't a big hit but it turned out to be my most-played game of 2022 (84 hours, gulp). My question is this: I pre-ordered the deluxe version, but so far there's been no DLC or even talk of dates. Is it possible there won't be any due to lack of interest and, if so, what about people that paid for it already? I don't recall ever seeing a co. fail to deliver. I've seen bad DLC for sure, but never just nothing.

I got it for $35 on Black Friday. It’s definitely fun and silly but not stupid silly like the last game. Not worth $60 but definitely get it if you can when it’s on sale. I didn’t experience any bugs.
