Game looks amazing. Both Amiibo and Special Edition are sold out at everyplace that has listed them so far.

I get that it’s Nintendo and it’s Metroid, but this feels like a ballsy ask to me. Just off the top of my head, the Ori games, Bloodstained and Hollow Knight were all kickass 2d Metroidvanias that delivered awesome experiences for budget prices. I don’t see the Metroid name justifying a 50% - 100% premium, but maybe that’s just me.

I loved, loved, loved Shadow Complex. Hell I even bought a Limited Run Games copy of it. But nobody charged $60 for it. Maybe this game is significantly bigger, but I kinda doubt it.
I will buy it anyways.

MercurySteams last Metroid title was 11+ hrs long. And that was a 3DS title. Shadow Complex was like 5 hours long. Ori was short but Bloodstained and especially Hollow Knight were both cheaper and pretty long.

Hopefully this title will have some meat on its bones.

SE preordered. It may be overpriced for what it is but I'm OK giving Nintendo full price for a new Metroid game (unlike giving them full price for 10 year old games they "remade".)

I mean this looks amazing and it started as a side scroller snd this just looks gorgeous. I’ve always loved Metroid and played and finished most, but it’s small system right? I don’t care about handheld or whatever. Just another hdmi port. No biggie. Plus its fucking Metroid! It’ll be my Halo for XBOX. And I can play Gamecube stuff like Eternal Darkness and the Metroid Prime’s again? Easy sale if case.

There are very few GameCube or Wii games available for the Switch, digital or physical. Unless there are some new hacks I don't know about.

I saw a clip where the developer noted they couldn’t do Dread until now because of technology limits. I wonder what that means for a game like a 2D Metroid.

Since a lot of the gameplay seems to be based on that dog robot stalking you, I suspect it's the ai/animations for the dog robot? I can't think of anything else because as others have said, there have been a ton of great indy 2d metroidvanias filling the gap since then.

what the hell is point of Switch then, other than the handheld shit? You can play old regular XBOX games on XO or Series X. Not sure about PS, but why wouldn’t you be able to at least buy and download all of Nintendo’s past amazing games? I will absolutely reconsider now.

Well, thanks, but seriously? I’m so glad I went Xbox. I like mature, blood and guts FPS which I know Nintendo veered away from with some exceptions. I don’t need to play at work on a handheld or wouldn’t even if could. Not digital old games, not many new? What’s so good about it?

I love backwards compatibility but basically never use it unless it's for really old titles (which Nintendo includes a decent number with their online service at least).

Switch has its own games, if they appeal to you, then it's a really well thought out and built system. If they don't appeal to you then the hardware wouldn't make a difference anyway.

It’s the only place (a handful of mobile titles aside) to play new Nintendo games. That’s a hell of a selling point.

I get not being interested in the handheld element — my Switch is docked 99% of the time — but the approach Nintendo has taken solves the biggest problem that’s plagued them for quite a few years now: they can’t really do justice to both a dedicated handheld and a dedicated console at the same time. When one is being supported well, the other often winds up stranded in a software drought. Thanks to the Switch, Nintendo’s attention isn’t divided anymore, so they’re able to put out a steadier stream of games. Whether you’re all handheld all the time, keep the Switch permanently docked, or are constantly taking it in and out of the dock, you’re covered.
