Re: NieR : Replicant ver.1.22474487139... (PS, Xbox, PC | out NOW! Apr 23, 2021)

Gameplay is similar to most action adventure games like AC Odyssey, Sekiro, Nioh, Hellblade, etc but with a faster paced combat (swords plus projectiles) world map is on the smaller side and its a little more story and character oriented with a generally lighter tone than those other titles despite dealing with some occasionally dark material.

I had a blast with it but it definitely won't be for everybody. It may be a little too anime-esque for some. Great world building and soundtrack.

I will say, I played it on Normal and found it easy (which I was good with)

52 hours in, and finally got a
Spoiler:
White Moonflower / Lunar Tear. Had to do some time manipulation to get it, but whatever. It was worth it.

Now on to finish Ending B. I like the additional cutscenes in this run, providing context to some of the battles.

So, the second time you play, new things can happen? Not that boring? Worth to play right after? I’ve never done that. I’ve played DLCs before but not whole game again back to back. Don’t know if I can...

Re: NieR : Replicant ver.1.22474487139... (PS, Xbox, PC | out NOW! Apr 23, 2021)

It's only like 3-4 hours of repeated gameplay, if that, but with new scenes sprinkled in to give context. Also, you keep your Exp level and weapons, so the battles are much easier. I would not suggest starting route B immediately after finishing route A. Only because there's a long ass drawn out text-only back story that plays out. It's great... But not something to play when you're already tired and finished route A.
if you ever get to that point, take a break and pick it up the next day.

So start route A? That’s not just first complete play through? There is a point where you actually pick A or B path or something? Thx D.

Re: NieR : Replicant ver.1.22474487139... (PS, Xbox, PC | out NOW! Apr 23, 2021)

Very very minor gameplay spoilers...
Spoiler:
Route A is half as 'young protagonist' and half as 'slightly older protagonist'.
When you finish route A, you'll be prompted to save your progress, and you'll see an A beside your save file.
When you load that save, you'll be starting route B. B starts in the middle of route A... So only the second half... and only with a handful of main storyline battles/quests to complete.

That's all I've got for now. Based on my experience so far, route B is absolutely worth playing through. As I said... The context it adds is key to the story.

The Dream texts in Part B are way easier to read on a mobile device. Just putting that out there. I would also say save yourself a few minutes and skip ending C, but absolutely get Ending D.

Agreed about the context in Route B.

How do you skip one and go to other: C, D?

It's a choice at the end of that route. 1 choice is C, the other is D.

Ah. So skip C all together. Got it. If I make it that far. I’ll try and at least do A & B. But, perhaps before I die. Still got RE8 and Outriders to get through.

Just did endings C and D. Agreed that C doesn't really need to be done. Best to go directly to D... And hoooooboy, that decision was a tough one! Said yes like five times, but damn if I didn't reconsider.

Finished it up, completing ending E.
overall I found this one more... straightforward... that Automata, but in a good way.
I might stick around and finish off the remaining achievements, but I'm not sure I can do the speed run. Looking forward to revisiting this game down the road, though.

Agreed. It's impressive how incredibly different the two games are while still holding some similarities.

Automata definitely did a better job with its multiple routes and the limited budgets are visible in both games, but I wouldn't really change much in either. Perfectly weird and unique in their own ways even if part of that weird is how perfectly normal part of it is.

I got ending B before work this morning. And it turns out I did get enough pink moonflower seeds to finish one of my last remaining side quests, so I'm 100% there! Ditto for weapons. Words are at 50%. I'm not enough of a completist to chase such a grindy platinum, but I might be enough of one to get ending C (along with D and E afterwards).

I would finish E before trying to get 100% on Words. Minor spoiler
Spoiler:
you get a 34th weapon after E that's just great.

One thing I noticed before the new content in route E...
Spoiler:
Your mother's diary is already unlocked, even though you're still young Nier (it didn't originally unlock until route B, when you're 5 years older), and if you actually read it to start the Nightmare scenarios, your protagonist changes to old-man/papa Nier from the 2010 US release.

By the way, as of today, you can pre-register for Nier: Reincarnation for iOS and Android.

Just got the last of the five endings! I missed out on NieR in the PS3 days, but it's kind of unreal to think that Ending E is new to this remaster. It's absolute perfection and feels like it had to have been the plan all along.

Re: NieR : Replicant ver.1.22474487139... (PS, Xbox, PC | out NOW! Apr 23, 2021)

Yep, agreed. As I understand it, that ending was included in the Grimoire Nier book, which includes some additional stories, and it's been said that Ending E is canon to what eventually leads to Automata. Sounds like they didn't have the budget to put it in the original release of the game...
Similarly...
Spoiler:
Drakengard 3 has an alternate ending/perspective that only exists in book form as well, and that's the canon ending that leads into Drakengard 1. That explainer video that Rich posted last month, or maybe another one I watched, covers some of that pretty nicely.

I third that. It was so perfectly integrated that it's amazing they had the gall to cut it from the original. That said the real ending for Automata
Spoiler:
Apparently happened in a stage reading/play of the game

I also appreciated the little reminder of how different though similar Automata is.

This is the guy who figured out the hidden trophy room in Automata. Shouldn't be long before someone figures out where to use this code...
