It seems like a lot of the first runs of consoles have issues that are later on fixed. Another reason why I’m not in a big rush to buy one right away.

Nope. Had a pre-launch Dreamcast, launch XBOX, PS2, PS3, PS4, Wii, Wii U, and Xbox One with zero issues. My Switch had a minor Joycon issue that was fixed inside of a week.

My Xbox 360 though was a goddamn dumpster fire of a disaster, but that seems like the outlier.

Last gen was actually the first one in a while where I didn't see large spread hardware problems (there were software problems, though). Almost every other generation since they went away from cartridges, there was something, back to the upside-down PS1s.

Has any recent system had such massive problems as the Xbox red ring of death?

The Switch has drift problems in the controllers, but that's not system bricking bad.

I think they've got a better handle on that at this point.

^ OP doesn't do that for their data mining threads.

The only console I’ve had catastrophic issues with wasn’t purchased at launch; I bought a fat PS3 with the first price drop, and it YLOD’ed after a few years.

My launch consoles —Xbox 360 (never red ringed!), Wii, Wii U, Xbox One, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One X — have all behaved great. There were other annoying things that made me wish I’d waited, like the launch 360s not having HDMI-out and the Wii U’s post-launch drought, but that’s it, really.

Doesn't concern me because #PCMasterRace. Not buying either console.

And yet, you still felt compelled to come into the thread to poo poo on it.

Why act differently than any other "#PCMasterRace" person now?

I guess I shouldn’t really talk about horror stories with launch consoles. I mean I haven’t really bought many at launch (only Vita and Switch), and both are still fine.

I didn’t buy my 360 at launch, but mine did end up with the red ring of death (I think I bought it in 2006 or 2007). My 360 Elite still works as far as I know, but it’s been a few years since I’ve used it.

My PS3 never had issues at all, but I bought it later in its life (I think like 2008).

Re: Are you concerned about hardware reliability for the upcoming Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5?

I went through 5+ 360s, my PS3 fat bit the dust and more recently my launch Wii died. Last gen was a fucking dumpster fire of epic proportions in relation to reliable hardware.

This gen has been solid with zero issues with the launch PS4, two XBOs and the WiiU.

So I want to say no worries, but then my mind wanders back to last gen. *shudder*

I’ve had 2 systems of recent, 360 and One. Both have been great. Great condition. Hardly any issues. Always got at least year or so after release. I’m content until I decide I need new. This new one just seems simply awesome. Awesome in speed, in power. Just awesome!

I only answered the topics question same as anyone else. I was asked if I was concerned and answered that no I was not concerned.

It's inferred that the audience is people actually buying or planning to buy the consoles, though (because if you're not going to, of course you're not concerned). Technically, of course, you're correct.

Nope.

Of all the consoles I've ever owned, only my launch PS3 & Xbox 360 have failed.

From what I hear, the series X has a really clever setup to draw heat out of the unit.

Re: Are you concerned about hardware reliability for the upcoming Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5?

Put it this way....I held off on an XBOX ONE until April of 2020(bday gift) because I wanted "all the bugs to work out". Shit, it's still in its box as I've yet to hook it. Though to be honest that is more due to a recent move than anything else.

As a DC fan would say..."I'm leery because I've been burned before"(see my sig).
