Who knows, maybe it'll make Bethesda suck less.

Does that mean those games are coming to Game Pass, though?

Todd Howard says games are still coming to other systems.

Like our original partnership, this one is about more than one system or one screen. We share a deep belief in the fundamental power of games, in their ability to connect, empower, and bring joy. And a belief we should bring that to everyone - regardless of who you are, where you live, or what you play on. Regardless of the screen size, the controller, or your ability to even use one.

They needed something to do with all that cash after TikTok fell through.

They were bought by Microsoft. The best we can hope for is that the broken games eventually get patched.

Good. Now I won't have to buy a new x-box to play the next Fallout game. The next good Fallout game.

Re: Microsoft just bought Bethesda

I hate how Bethesda/Zenimax is run, so I have some hope for this transaction. People say MS doesn't have exclusives to compete with Sony so I wouldn't blame them for making all future games PC/Xbox exclusive, but I don't think MS is going to do that.

Maybe now they can afford to create new engines for Elder Scrolls/Fallout instead of the buggy junk they have now. Tongue in cheek there obviously, I don't think it was ever a matter of not having the money.

Re: Microsoft just bought Bethesda

I don't think they can just pull current contracts. The most I can see them doing is putting the games on Gamepass and/or having an exclusivity window (both of which will influence people to get an Xbox), but otherwise they are leaving money on the table by not publishing these games on PS5. And we've seen with Minecraft that they can play nice with each other.

I mean, no one says Sony is leaving money on the table not publishing their games for Xbox.

Yeah, I think current contracts will be honored. Plus, as noted elsewhere, they can put the games up on PS5 & Switch at full price ($60 or $70) while Xbox users get it with Game Pass if they want (or they can pay full price, too). The contrast will benefit Game Pass, no doubt, which is the ultimate goal for MS (just as it was for Office 365, OneDrive, etc.).

How dare you. There are dozens of us on this forum. Dozens!
I get the reference, but for this place, 'dozens' is reaching.

That account is too good for this world.

edit: about as expected...

Nah, I wouldn't say that. Sony still has a lot of studios too that arguably make "better" exclusive games in a lot of ways.

But funny you mention Disney.
Disney paid about $4,000,000,000 for Star Wars.
Disney paid about $4,000,000,000 for Marvel.

Microsoft just paid $7,500,000,000 for Bethesda and co.

Insane.

Re: Microsoft just bought Bethesda

Microsoft was just about to drop $20 billion+ for TikTok so they probably had some reserves.

Nvidia is buying ARM for $40,000,000,000.

I just wanted to throw in some numbers to dwarf other ones.

Good purchase for Microsoft, as I have a reason to buy an Xbox Series X now, especially if this includes future Doom titles. Their first party game is weak.

Re: Microsoft just bought Bethesda

MS ruined Rare and 343 killed Halo. The only other company they bought that I care about is Ninja Theory and the jury is out on that purchase.

I want Deathloop but don't care about any other Bethesda franchise.

Dang, that's huge news. Now all MSFT has to buy is Larian and CD Project Red and they'll own nearly all of the CRPG market.

Yeah that seems like an overpay to me. Did they have ANY mega-successful game releases this generation?
