Horizon: Forbidden West (PS4, PS5; 2/18/22)
You won’t need to upgrade to a PlayStation 5 to play one of its big upcoming titles. Sony revealed today it plans to release Horizon Forbidden Weston PlayStation 4. What’s more, if you do end up buying the game on PS4, you’ll get a free upgrade to the PS5 version. Sony plans the same treatment for SackBoy A Big Adventure and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales.
“While these three games were designed to take advantage of PS5 and its unique next-gen features like the ultra-high-speed SSD and DualSense controller, PS4 owners will also be able to enjoy these experiences when they launch,” the company said.

So if the PS4 version is cheaper, why not buy that version and then get the free upgrade for PS5? Not saying there will be a price difference but could be a cheaper way around paying next-gen premium.

The two games I am looking forward to the most are this and Spiderman: Miles Morales... and if this is the case, I'll get them for my PS4 Pro and put off the PS5 for awhile.

This was one of the main reasons I was thinking of upgrading but if I can play on the ps4 I’ll do like I’m doing with Xbox and wait for the first price drop. I can put off better load times and slightly better graphics as long as I still have access to new releases.

Since I still can't buy a PS5, I guess I'm down for the PS4 version.
Games still look good to me on the PS4, so I won't have much envy for the PS5 version.

Damn. That one hurts.
Does Sony have a big 2021 holiday exclusive any more?

I think the only first-party titles they have before the year's out are the expanded versions of Ghost of Tsushima and Death Stranding. But I feel like Sony usually "gives" the holidays to third-party and keeps most of their stuff in the first half (or maybe 3/4s) of the year.

Hated to see this but Sony hasn't exactly been on a Hot Streak of late....this and God of War were suppose to the the cornerstone of The PS5 Showcase and now both have been delayed.....there was a story not long ago saying Sony is planning more Director Cuts...because apparently they see and know there is not much on their end like in years past...Bloodborne, Last of Us Ghost of Tsushima and others...that have carried them....didn't go to E3 (2nd year in a row) and not going to Gamesom in August which XBox once again is going to along with other big names.....

re: Horizon: Forbidden West (PS4, PS5; 2/18/22)
I can't fuss at Sony too much in that regard given that the last half of the year looks so barren (at least for my tastes) in general. I know we still have some formal announcements pending, like the next Call of Duty, but there's depressingly little between now and the end of the year on any console that I'm truly excited about. Plenty of "sure, I'll play that" (Guardians of the Galaxy, Metroid Dread, Halo Infinite, Psychonauts 2), but I think Kena and Far Cry 6 are my most highly anticipated games for the remainder of 2021, and I'm not...that pumped?
Eh, I don't think that's a big deal, especially if the rumors of a Sony showcase in September pan out. For my money, it's the communication that's important, not showing things at the same time everyone else is showing things.

The first game was the only reason I bought a PS4 Pro, the same applies for this game and a PS5. Since I finished thr first game my Pro has pretty much sat in a corner collecting dust. Then the game came out for the PC and I sort of regret buying it. I’m glad I didn’t knock myself trying to find a PS5.

Re: Horizon: Forbidden West (PS4, PS5; 2/18/22)
The various editions of Forbidden West have been detailed on the PS Blog:

Sony's approach up till now has been that cross-gen titles are $60 and PS5-exclusives are $70. They're breaking that with Forbidden West.
The PS5 version is $70. The PS4 version is $60. If you buy a physical disc, there is no way to go from PS4->PS5. The only way to buy the game and retain the ability to choose either version is to buy it digitally.

At least they're up front about that so if you want to upgrade later, you know how. Though why you can't buy the upgrade for a disc-based copy like you can for Ghost of Tsushima is beyond me.
I haven't had much of a chance to really check out the content of the SEs, so I went and preordered all three of the deluxe versions on Best Buy before they sold out. I will probably end up keeping the CE version. I love my Aloy statue from the previous game and would like to pair her with another statue. The other stuff in the RE version looks pretty worthless, especially for an additional $60.

Re: Horizon: Forbidden West (PS4, PS5; 2/18/22)
Basically Sony is telling everyone to plan ahead as to what version you want....and if you want to play on PS4 and plan sometime down the road to get a PS5, you need to buy the Digital Deluxe Version at $80. That's the only one that will work cross consoles....
I don't know about Sony anymore...they're starting going "Director's Cuts" to fill the void of delayed games and trying to grab more money. And now this with Horizon: Forbidden West. In the meantime, MS has announced pretty much all games with their Smart Delivery system with Xbox One and Xbox Series without additional fees...

As much as I want to play this on a PS5, I think I'll still be stuck with a PS4 and have to play it on that - hopefully it won't be too hobbled - I'm fine if it looks/plays as good as the first game.
