While I don’t care about 30 fps and I always put graphics over performance anyway, I have a bad feeling this game is going to be rated a 6-7 at best.

Re: Gotham Knights (10/21/22)

I have a feeling that this will be one of those games that's not gonna be quite ready come release date, and will need multiple patches to get working properly.

But then, I can say that about any major game right now, and it's more likely than not that I'd be correct.

Did Goofy fall off a cliff at the start of your sentence?

Reviews are up, and…yeah, IGN scored it 5/10, GameSpot 4/10, PC Gamer 49/100…. Some of the lowest scores I can remember seeing for a AAA game.

But when I see things like this in Eurogamer’s review:

What a muddle this game is. Playing it over the past week has been looking past a series of issues large and small, from the No-Batman thing, the bland overworld thing, the somewhat botchy combat thing, the 30fps-on-consoles thing, and even more serious stuff like the clumsiness with which it has handled the disability of one of its protagonists. There is a lot about this game that is suboptimal, that needs explaining, that exists to tie you in knots when you try to talk about it. But also this: the truth is I often had fun with Gotham Knights. And I always looked forward to coming back to it.

…it kind of reminds me of Saints Row, which was also savaged in reviews but was also a game I genuinely had a fantastic time with. Surely a “wait for a sale” thing here, and maybe at least some of those rough edges will be smoothened out months from now.

Re: Gotham Knights (10/21/22)

Disappointing. I was so looking forward to the first Open World game that would really let two players play their own missions in the same world at the same time. Getting constant "You are getting too far from your partner" warnings in an open world game is so infuriating. But yeesh this game seems so half-baked. Glad I decided to wait on pre-ordering it.
Will probably still pick it up in the future on sale.

I’m hoping that the game will improve after a few updates (if possible) because I love the license and concept.

I just hope that the price of the special edition drops at least to 50% of what it is right now so I can get those 4 sweet statues

Re: Gotham Knights (10/21/22)

pretty detailed video review on the visuals.....along with comparisons to Arkham Knights both visual and gameplay....There really is a substance differential between the games. If they came out with a PS5 Upgraded version of Arkham Knights, I'd play it again in a heartbeat....

Re: Gotham Knights (10/21/22)

So far this is pretty generic. Nothing special. The Arkham games had a lot better fighting. Maybe this gets better as it goes but it is fairly basic so far.

Re: Gotham Knights (10/21/22)

I'm actually enjoying the game so far. I like that combat has been revamped somewhat, and that you never quite feel the overpowering invincibility you had as Batman (no matter how challenging it got). The travel, side quests, character building, gear creation, costume customization, and other mechanics add some variety to the game, and I find myself wanting to explore everything before storming through the main storyline.

I like changing characters a bit. While Nightwing/Dick Grayson is my all-time favorite character, and the one I've been playing mostly, there's still a visceral thrill brawling as Red Hood, hacking background electronics/weapons to be used in combat as Batgirl, or stealthing about as Robin. But I'm digging Nightwing's combos equally as much.

Those Knighthood costume unlocks look rad af

Re: Gotham Knights (10/21/22)

I am only about an hour in and this game is tedious so far. I'm still in the first mission but the going out every night and trying to stop crime / interrogate thugs to get intell for the mission is getting old already. The combat has the bones of Arkham games, but fleshed out in a lot less fun manor. Should have just kept the same combat structure. I think it's pretty much universal that Arkham combat was as good as it gets for a superhero game. Why mess with the formula?

I knew what I was getting into buying this one. But it's a drag so far. Maybe once I get deeper in the story my opinion will change.

But I will say the opening scene of this game is fucking badass. Hope there's more of that to come.

Re: Gotham Knights (10/21/22)

It's not Spider-Man but not much is. But I enjoy this for what it is. I do wish the fighting was more free flowing like Arkham and Spidey tho. I love playing as Batgirl and recently switched to Robin to give him some time.

Early combat is fine but shallow, but as you develop it gets a ton more interesting and diverse.

That labyrinth sequence though The more this game plays out, the more I love it.

Not a perfect game though. The boss battles are frustrating.

I wish this would have been on previous generations. I’d pick it up but I don’t have a current gen console and am not quite ready to commit to one yet.

Re: Gotham Knights (10/21/22)

I'm about an hour and a half into this so far and really liking it. It's a bit tedious with respect to fighting generic crime, but overall I'm having fun.
