A critic shouldn't review material for what it could have been in their imagination,, but rather for what it is.
Just like how hypothetically, I wouldn't really appreciate a review of a Wolfenstein game written by a Jewish person who complained that the game wasn't sensitive enough to the issues of the Holocaust and anti-Semitism -- that may be the case, but it's not really a game review at that point. At least Polygon doesn't score their reviews.
Just because you don't consider it to be an egregious collection of stereotypes doesn't mean someone else would. Like I said before a game review is one person's opinion of a game so it is going to have their own personal biases and feelings wrapped into it. You seem to only be bothered because the reviewers feelings are negative and you are enjoying the game. If the reviewer gave it higher praise because they thought it represented Latin American culture well then you wouldn't be saying it shouldn't be a review.

You know, that's an interesting take. I don't know. On one level that's true, but on another there may be something about letting someone too sensitive to the material be the one to pass a negative judgement, just like there are people too biased to be impartial jurors. an extreme example is you wouldn't ask one of the harrassed former employees of Blizzard to review Diablo 4 or Overwatch 2 for your well-respected gaming website would you? Certainly not as the website's only review of the game.
I don't discount this author his right to express his opinion in written form, but like I said I think it would be better served as an op-ed article than as the official game review.

Re: Far Cry 6 (10/7/21)

I keep getting errors on Xbox Series X. When I try and quick resume, it says I have to go back to the main menu and it won’t let me select no. If I select yes, it sends me to the menu but then gives me a random “granite” error. Happened three times now. The only way to fix it is manually close the game.

Yeah, I had the same problem with quick resume on this game and multiple others on my Series X. I’ve just given up on using the feature with that console, though it seems to work well on PS5.

Re: Far Cry 6 (10/7/21)

is there something with swinging the machete using the right stick? it's like if i want a silent takedown i have to get lucky to take them down with the machete bc of the right stick push. never seems to work when i want it to and especially when about to silent takedown...

Not in my experience. I just press R3 when the “machete kill” prompt appears on the screen.

But under accessibility options, there’s a way to remap anything that involves clicking a stick if you’re having a hard time getting that to work the way you’d like.

Google tells me:

This mode also automatically remaps melee attacks from a right stick click to double-tapping B/circle.

My biggest gripe so far is how you almost have to be in a precise position to pick up scraps, gear, or any other items. I've had to kneel more often than not to pick up various things. It shouldn't be that way.

You can buy and equip shoes that gather for you once you get off that first island.

I haven't tried it yet. I prefer rapid movement as a bonus stat.

My mistake, it picks stuff up when you are in a vehicle.

Re: Far Cry 6 (10/7/21)

Why is it with a sniper rifle and armor piercing rounds, I can’t kill shit at first fortress or whatever those fortified occupied lairs are?

I have dead in cross hairs and shoot dead on multiple times. All I do is nothing but alert them. Even up close this guy had super armor which it took me a very many bullets to kill. He even pulled out a shield. And this is first fortress and like 2nd side mission of game. I’d hate to lower difficulty from action or whatever middle was, but maybe I just got to give more time. Trying to remember and get used to controls again.

Re: Far Cry 6 (10/7/21)

Okay, my sister gave me this game for my birthday, which was last week.

I'm not a hardcore gamer by any means, so bear with me if my questions sound dumb to you. I'm more of a sports gamer like NBA 2K and Madden and The Show etc. I usually don't buy these kind of games because they are so complex.

Fist and foremost, how complex is this game? Does this game need you to purchase DLC content to be able to advance to the next levels faster?

Is it a FPS for most of it or does it get into some intricate gameplay where you have to accomplish xx number of tasks otherwise you could be stuck for hours?

I just want a simple and entertaining experience and not something that will drive me crazy because I failed to do this task or interact with this person to advance.

and for starters, what is the installation download time? 6, 7 8 hours before I can play? The updates/installation time drives me crazy because they take forever.

The guy looks cool from what I've seen and I like that Giancarlo Esposito is animated here and voicing one of the main characters.

Again, I don't want to sound too dumb to the gamers here. I'm pretty much a beginner level with this type of game.

Re: Far Cry 6 (10/7/21)

Lot of questions there. Folirst of all it's not a hard game. It's one of the only series where I have little difficulty beating each and every game. But like Metrid it's kind of the hardest in the beginning. You start with very basic and weak weapons and it takes a while of... not exactly grinding but baby steps before you build up an arsenal that will make things a lot easier. You can go guns a-blazing if you want but it's a lot easier to sneak around and machete people from behind, disabling alarms is key to a quick base take over. You don't need the DLC, there are plenty of good guns in the game as loklng as you take the time to search for them.
You can also have a friend help you with the whole game if you want, that makes things a lot easier. What system do you play it on?

Send me a friend request and I would be happy to help you some evening. The co op ability opens up after you raid the fort for Uranium about 1-2 hours in. My gamer tag is in my Sig.

Yeah. Unnecessary extra layer of complexity. And you can't just swap bullets on the fly.

On the other hand, being able to change your weapon selection without visiting a workbench is a much appreciated tweak from FC5/New Dawn.
