Yeah, so I got my wish. Full game in VR but I have no VR.

I know this is current consoles, but I'm sure a PS5 & Series X are already in the works. Has Sony mentioned anything about a new/updated PSVR for PS5?

^^ Not to my knowledge. I hope they do but it can't be bogged down with wires. Having the Quest has spoiled me and I can't see going backwards now.

Re: Star Wars Squadrons - EA

The new Star Wars game is coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X. More specifically, Star Wars: Squadron, the latest Star Wars game since Jedi: Fallen Order will release on PS5 and Xbox Series X, however, there's some bad news for those upgrade to the next-gen console. While the game will be available on both PS5 and Xbox Series X, these versions of the game will not feature any upgrades. In other words, they will be just like the PS4 and Xbox One versions.

It looks like if the game is well received, EA would consider upgrading the game.

Re: Star Wars Squadrons - EA

So theoretically you could have a PS4/XBO version for $60 and an identical copy on PS5/XSX for $70? Okay EA.

PS5 and XSX are both backwards compatible, right?

It's a $40 game.

That shot has some of the best Star Wars dogfighting ever. That was just beautiful.

Wow, I somehow missed that. But this is EA. So is this game going to run on a subscription model or something like that?

No microtransactions, no subscriptions.

Re: Star Wars Squadrons - EA

I've been eyeing flight sticks to go along with this. One of the old X-Wing/Tie Fighter games was probably the last time I used one. This looks like a good reason to pick one up again.

Re: Star Wars Squadrons - EA

Polygon Review :
(Opening paragraph)
Star Wars: Squadrons is every inch the spaceflight simulation that fans have been dreaming of for a generation. It accommodates players in extraordinary ways, from the quality of its many controller options to its ability to form parties across multiple platforms. It’s also one of the most focused games that Electronic Arts has produced in the last 15 years.
(Closing paragraph)
Simply put,
Star Wars: Squadrons is the total package. If all you have at your disposal is a console, a decent TV, and a working controller, you’re going to have a wonderful time. If you have a throttle, stick, and rudder pedals, you’re really in for a treat. And, if you happen to be able to afford VR, you may never want to take that headset off again.

This is part of the dilemma for me. If I get a VR headset, it'll be for the PS5. If I get a flight stick, it'll be for the Xbox Series X. But when I actually start playing Squadrons, I won't have a stick or a headset, so does it really matter? And yet I'm conflicted anyway!

Re: Star Wars Squadrons - EA

If I still had PlayStation VR, this would be a no-brainer, day-one purchase. I just don’t know how much I’d enjoy it on a screen. The flying portions of Battlefront 2 were my least favorite parts of the game.

Re: Star Wars Squadrons - EA

So basically there is no next gen version, right, just backward compatibility on the new systems? Or do we still not know (I have no idea why they'd make a next gen version with no upgrades)?

Also no EA Play discount for Xbox Gamepass members on this until that feature launches in November... ugh.

Thanks!

Sometimes I hate you guys, though. I avoided this thread for so long, popped in and read that Polygon review, and now it's pre loading on my PS4 as we speak.

Was kind of on the fence about the game but after seeing that review I am all in.

After playing this a bit, it is clear I would be one of the worst pilots in the Star Wars universe.

Ha!

I excitedly showed my wife the trailer a couple of weeks back, and her response was “this looks like something you’d hate.” It looks amazing, but I’m pretty sure I’d be terrible at it. I’ll find out soon, I’m sure!

I don’t think I saw this mentioned in the thread earlier, but I just saw that Squadrons supports crossplay (across all platforms!) by default.

Re: Star Wars Squadrons - EA

I was really struggling with the controls at first, then I switched from M&K to controller and it made a world of difference.

And the VR experience is absolutely unreal. Just incredible.
