Re: Resident Evil Village (Xbox, PS5, PC; 5/7/2021)

absolutely in love with this game. it's almost nothing like 7 except for perspective. this is RE of old. 2, 3, 4. lots of explorations, puzzles that are not too hard, monsters that search you out throughout game, which i'm not a huge fan of, but this game takes 7's really only 2 characters that followed you consistently and makes it better and not as annoying as i thought it was in 7. didn't love RE2 remake bald dude that follows you, but it does bring sense of urgency, dredd and makes you need to think fast and move faster. so far this game is absolutely sublime!

Re: Resident Evil Village (Xbox, PS5, PC; 5/7/2021)

More people should be playing this. It’s among the finest in the franchise and a hell of a lot of fun as an action/survival horror game and continues to improve on already familiar yet different tones. Also, a great example of what keeps this franchise so fresh and continues to this day with all new incarnations. It is among the best of this series and can compete with many horror/action/survival hybrids as best.

1. RE4
2. RE: Village (8)
3. Resident Evil 2 remaster
4. RE7
5. Resident Evil 3 remaster

Re: Resident Evil Village (Xbox, PS5, PC; 5/7/2021)

Finally beat this on "Village of the Shadows" difficulty. It was quite a ride, even on NG+... Even the weakest enemies require two blasts to the face with the grenade launcher to go down, and can send you to red in one hit. Bosses require a lot of precision because several of their attacks can one-shot you.

By far, the toughest fight for me was:

Spoiler:
Heisenberg, partially because you can't cheese him using NG+ weapons, and partially because he is significantly tougher than in Hardcore

A great experience!

Re: Resident Evil Village (Xbox, PS5, PC; 5/7/2021)

I will say, my only gripe is sometimes I have no idea what to do or where to go. There’s no real roadmap per say and I have to go online for spoiler free help sometimes. I mean the village, right now isn’t that big and I go through the same areas many times over...

Re: Resident Evil Village (Xbox, PS5, PC; 5/7/2021)

I had only played through the intro and arrival at the village and worked my way through the castle last night. Just a wonderful game so far and it looks fantastic on the Series X. It may be that itís been too long since Iíve played Bloodborne, but Iíve been feeling some shades of Yharnam in the art direction of the setting.

Re: Resident Evil Village (Xbox, PS5, PC; 5/7/2021)

I swear this reminds me so much of RE4 and has me so giddy. It’s just an incredible mesh of everything that makes this series great! An incredible entry in this series and strong contender for among tops of year. It’s just scary fun. And I do say scary. Usually movies, games don’t affect me anymore. So desensitized, but this one has me truly on edge and it’s great!! Games just don’t do it for me. I like my fair share of horror, but this has brought back the tension and sense of dread.

How far am I if I just defeated Morneau and created and opened a 6-winged unborn whatever gate?

Spoiler:
Probably 2/3 or so

As for me, I think I'm ready to hang up my hat on this one. I got all the trophies in the main game, all that's left is getting an "S" on every Mercenaries level...but that's been a real slog. Maybe I'll revisit if and when there's DLC down the line.

Re: Resident Evil Village (Xbox, PS5, PC; 5/7/2021)

^ thanks. Too bad. I really wanted this to last. If I’m that far, then this is not a long game at all. I never finish games this quick, but we’ll see. Still have stuff to do. On my way to Heisenberg, i assume. And many other games yet to come, but fuck if this isn't one of the most fun games i have played in a long time.

Spoiler:
Those drill arm mutants are a pain, you must shoot at the red spot on the chest (double arm at the back) to weaken them. I still haven't find that key to unlock that door wiith horse and horseshoe, I can see a case so must be a new weapon.

No casual. Just normal. I thought this was an easy game compared to others. I hardly died once for some reason. Do you get any perks starting it up again?

No. You just have to restart the game to change the difficulty.

No, I know, but no reason to play on casual when normal wasn’t much of challenge. Just wondering if you open unlimited something or other on a next playthrough.

After the first playthrough the store opens up and you can unlock unlimited ammo for any weapon that you've fully upgraded. And there are two difficulty levels above Normal.

I'm about 1/3 of the way in on my first playthrough, and unlimited ammo sounds like a dream...

oh, that would be worth another play. And up the difficulty as well.

Does it cost a lot though? Not much Lei going around. And I use most for supplies and upgrade weapons….

You use Challenge Points to unlock stuff. But the weapon (sans the grenade launcher) has to be fully upgraded first.

Re: Resident Evil Village (Xbox, PS5, PC; 5/7/2021)

I got to Miranda last night, died and called it a night because it was late. I thought Iíd finish it tonight and then set up my ps5 to start messing with that, but after reading about Villageís new game plus, I think I may squeeze in another runthrough or two before Ratchet & Clank drops next week.

When you complete the game, this will all be explained, but there are numerous challenges in the game that award you points (e.g. "Complete the game knife-only" or "Kill 50 enemies with a mine"). You'll have completed a few just by running through the game once.
