Maneater (5/22/20; Steam, XB1, PS4, Switch later)

And here I thought I might be done buying new games until the next-gen consoles drop...! Especially since it’s only $40 at launch.

A rare Sunday delivery. Tragically, Amazon preorders don't include the tiger shark DLC.

I bet I would enjoy playing it for an hour or two, but it doesn’t look like anything worth playing for very long. Hopefully it comes to Game Pass in a few months.

The reviews I’ve read all basically bear that out. The game’s apparently really short, so at least it doesn’t outrageously overstay its welcome.

The reviews say 10-15 hours which I wouldn't consider really short especially for a budget release.

Re: Maneater (5/22/20; Steam, XB1, PS4, Switch later)

Folks on ResetERA who beat it seemed to say between 6-8 hours for the main bits. 100%-ing brings it to 10-12 hours total.

Played some on Friday. It's a ton of fun

I’d really like to try this one out. I wish Redbox still rented games. It seems like the perfect game to binge on for a few days, finish, and return.

It’s stupidly addictive. It’s a “just one more thing” game where I decide I’m going to stop after I finish one more goal, and then after 30 “one more thing”s, it’s 2 AM, I’m level 13, and literally halfway through the story in one playthrough. :p

Trying to eat everything you can could become the biggest distraction since picking flowers in Red Dead.

Re: Maneater (5/22/20; Steam, XB1, PS4, Switch later)

I just finished it. Full set of achievements. I have no idea how long it took since the in-game counter seems to run while it’s in standby mode, at least on Xbox, but something like 12 hours sounds about right.

I know there’s all sorts of good stuff coming out later this year — including some world-class titles just weeks away — but if I had to judge my Game of the Year based on what I’ve played so far, this would seriously be a contender. And I’ve played through so many more games than usual too!

It has its issues for sure. Crashed once, severe static in the surrounds at one point, and the framerate devolved to a slideshow when I was grinding for bounty hunters. Not a technical problem, but some of the jumps for license plates can be a pain. But geez, I still loved just about every minute of it.

Just wrapped it up today and got the platinum. My final game time was around 12 hours. It's definitely rough around the edges but I still had a lot of fun with it. I can't imagine someone wanting it to be way longer though. It's pretty much the perfect length and would most certainly have worn out its welcome if it was even slight longer. It's a pretty one note game.

On sale at Best Buy for $29.99 (25% off). Stacked with GCU I figured at $24 it was worth trying, so I bit (pun intended).

I beat the story at around 8hrs. Maybe an hour or two of finishing up for 100% but I'm not sure I care to spend any more time with the game. A really fun concept that was (no pun intended) a very shallow and repetitive experience. The only challenge at all was the final boss fight which took me three tries until I realized the tail whip made it a breeze. A $20 game at best honestly.

Free DLC for Shark Week

Maneater is celebrating Shark Week with a free gift for all players. Both current and new Maneater players on all gaming platforms can grab the Tiger Shark Adaptation for free. Named after the legendary Tiger Shark, often referred to as “the garbage can of the sea,” this evolution provides extra nutrients when consuming prey in addition to providing a sharply striped cosmetic upgrade. The Tiger Shark Adaptation is now free for all players. To equip the Tiger Shark Adaptation, download the latest Maneater update, players can visit their nearest Grotto, and select the Tiger Shark Adaptation under Body Evolutions.

Not sure when I'll pick up the game, but nabbed the DLC for PS4. Thanks Decker.

^ I need to know what DualSense features are implemented in this game before I decide if I buy it for PS5 or XSX.

Just buy the piece of crap now, play it for an hour and then get the free upgrade for the next-gen console. In all honesty, the game is ok but I find this announcement to be more of a last gasp for air for this game than an actual header turner for gamers.

My Dualsenses are not working today. Besides, I was saying in pretty clear terms that this game is not anything to lose sleep over or spend a lot of time debating the extra tingle you may or may not get.

Re: Maneater (5/22/20; Steam, XB1, PS4, Switch later)

As someone who will most definitely have Maneater on his best of the year list I'll disagree. Also technical issues were really my big issues with the game so if that is fixed in a remastered version even better.

Re: Maneater (5/22/20; Steam, XB1, PS4, Switch later)

I hope you're right. I spent some time with it after the updates and still felt like it had some ways to go to become an enjoyable game. I still own my PS4 copy and will give it another shot on the PS5.
