Re: Maneater (5/22/20; Steam, XB1, PS4, Switch later)

Wrapped up the story on this last night and came away with a pretty high opinion of it. It took about an hour or two for things to gel for me, but once they did, it was a blast right up through the end. The only thing I didn’t do was get my wanted level up to 10 and I doubt I’ll put in the extra half hour or so to do that.

I will say, I was surprised that the game didn’t perform that well on the Series X. I was getting a lot of slowdown, not only when things got crazy, but just swimming around at times. I would pretty regularly encounter fish that looked like they were animated at like 10 frames/second or lower.

I also had a bizarre bug for the entire game, where any time one of the human bosses would show up for the first time, the camera perspective would lock to looking out of one of my shark’s gills and she’d no longer be able to turn left or right. It happened for each of the 8 bosses I beat, but only for their first appearances in the game.

Still, the technical issues were a minor annoyance and the gameplay was a lot of fun. The story was more entertaining than I expected and having Chris Parnell narrate with a decently funny script added a lot to the entertainment value.

I put in about 2 hours between the tutorial and the first area just eating fish and fighting crocs. Pretty dull so far (outside the tutorial with the swimmers). How long to get to the meatier stuff?

Shouldn't be too much longer. (It's a short game.) Basically once you start evolving, attacking boats, eating people, and all that. The stuff that seems tedious and annoying now will be a cakewalk before you know it.

I’m not sure if the game didn’t mention it or if I just missed it, but I completely overlooked sonar until several hours into the game. Be sure to ping it a lot, as it reveals hidden items and they’ll help you level up a lot faster. I think I was probably around level 8 before everything started gelling and getting a lot more fun.

I’ll get al UE with all dlc if released. I don’t know if this game would appeal to me and surprised by the liking here.

So, you will get the Ultimate Edition despite not knowing if the game will appeal to you? You only live once.

To be fair I've owned and played the game off and on for 10 months and am still not sure if it appeals to me.

Is this dlc, new game? Still haven’t tried eventhough dl’d via GP. That looked pretty cool. Guessing dlc. Chris Parnell narrating, right? If I played and loved full game, even though free, if I paid for dlc, I can still play, right? Eventhough don’t own game.

Re: Maneater (5/22/20; Steam, XB1, PS4, Switch later)

https://www.tripwireinteractive.com/...august-31-2021

ROSWELL, Ga. – July 13, 2021 – Developer and publisher Tripwire Interactive is excited to put one of the greatest mysteries surrounding Maneater: Truth Quest to rest, confirming an August 31, 2021 launch date for the downloadable content (DLC) add-on to Maneater for the PlayStation®4 and PlayStation®5 computer entertainment systems, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S console systems, and PC (via Steam and Epic Games Store). Maneater: Truth Quest continues where the story left off following the thrilling conclusion in Maneater, the original award-winning Action-RPG (shARkPG) where you play as a shark.

Starring the titular and evolved bull shark protagonist and investigative journalist/narrator Trip Westhaven, Maneater: Truth Quest will take players down the rabbit hole of dark secrets and conspiracies surrounding Port Clovis and the Naval Wildlife Organization (NWO). The original stories of animals growing bone like armor, emitting flesh-eating toxins, or using electricity as a weapon were simply just old fisherman's tales. That is until conspiracy theorists everywhere pointed to the original Maneater as solid proof of a Government coverup. Trip Westhaven, driven the brink of madness, fires up his ViewTube channel “Truth Quest”, to take his followers, the “Questers” into deep waters in an effort to uncover the dark secrets behind this whale of a tale.

Chris Parnell (Saturday Night Live, Rick and Morty, Archer), reprises his role as investigative journalist Trip Westhaven in today’s new Maneater: Truth Quest “Site P” trailer, further exploring the dark conspiracies players will uncover in their underwater journey.

Maneater: Truth Quest DLC takes players to a brand-new island off the coast of Port Clovis – and comes packed with new evolutions, challenges, wildlife, and more! Players will once again take control of the apex predator of the sea to Eat, Explore and Evolve their way to the top of the food chain. Those interested in testing the water can also look forward to a free pilot episode, showcasing some of the new objectives players can sink their teeth into while uncovering the mysteries that lie below. This pilot episode features approximately 10-15 minutes of gameplay and is intended to provide a small taste of what’s to come with the full version of Maneater: Truth Quest.

New features and content include:

New Evolutions

o New Evolution Set

o Maximum level cap increased to 40

o Five new organ evolutions with one additional organ slot unlocked at level 35 (requires DLC ownership)

New Wildlife

o New “Uber” Apex Predator

o New evolved hunt creatures

New Military Forces for Bounty Hunter System

o Military land forces will launch attacks from beaches and fortifications

o Helicopters will hunt by air

o Five new Bounty Bosses

o New weapons and vehicles for military Bounty Hunters

New Objective Types

o Failure to Communicate:Tail-whip objects to destroy the target objective

o Time Trial: Swim through the rings before time runs out!

The Maneater: Truth Quest DLC will require the base game, Maneater, to play -- and will be available for $14.99 / €14.99 / £12.99 MSRP with an ESRB rating of M for Mature, PEGI 18 rating, and USK 16 rating.

It’s been almost 11 months since Maneater announced that a ray tracing update was coming, and they’re continuing to say that it’s in development and to stay tuned for further updates. I’m kind of baffled that it’s not arriving alongside the DLC.

I recently downloaded this from Game Pass. I know it's supposed to get good as you progress, but I found it to be quite repetitive in the beginning so I moved on.
