Re: The Legend Of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (Switch; 5/12/23)
After playing BotW the last couple of weeks, I think I’m done. After 96 shrines, all four divine beasts, the Master Sword and some upgrades like the Hylian shield, I am burnt out on this game. I’m not even sure I’ll attempt to kill Ganon. What’s the point? It’s not like the game has been hard.
Now I’m worried I might have ruined my TotK experience. Is it the same thing? Broken weapons. Shrines. Falling off cliffs in the rain. Annoying shock enemies making me drop my gear. Opening chests a second time because I had no room. Etc.
I didn’t even stable one horse in the game. I ran and fast traveled everywhere.

I just started playing BotW a couple months ago and downloaded the DLC. Found the ancient horse saddle pretty early so that made using a horse a LOT more useful and easier. Didn't even know it was DLC until recently. I hope it's back for TotK.

I started playing this more (it helps my wife and five year old daughter like watching me play it) and I just finished the second "starter" shrine. Let me tell you this game has been a joy to play and is ten times better than BotW (which says a lot because that game was brilliant). The quality of life improvements are great, the story seems better so far, the recipes are tracked, the inventory is well managed, and don't even get me started on fuse and ultra hand.
By the way, I was going to post here and tell Deftones that ultra hand seems fairly easy to me, and then I proceeded to build a boat with crooked fans that promptly sailed me into a wall from which there was no escape. I had to reload a five minute earlier autosave
But yeah, this is definitely worth all the hype and after the slog that BotW turned into, this is a welcome diversion.

I've made it to the Goron area. I need to farm some rupies so I can get a 2nd piece of gear that offers heat resistance. I only had one piece of cold gear for the Wind Temple and had to rely on food, which was a pain.
I know there's a limited number but I really hate that you can't skip the cutscene when you use a tower to open the map. It's so damn long.

I swear, Nintendo intentionally makes the Water Temple a giant pain in the ass because of the history. Had no issue with either the Wind or Fire temples. Got to Water and I have no idea what to do.

I'm probably 25 hours into this and am loving it. I did the water temple because I just happened to stumble across it, but haven't actively sought out many of the main story missions. I really enjoy what they've done with adding the depths and sky islands to the map. I've mostly just wandered around, tugging at threads and doing side missions I come across. Outside of the shrines and overpacked koroks, I haven't done much with the building mechanics, though I've recently discovered some Zonai elements that are making me want to start experimenting with that more. Really, my only gripes so far are that it seems ridiculously hard to build up any decent number of rupees and the weapon durability is terrible. I've been purposefully not looking up hints, but may have to cave in and dig some up on those two areas, as I'm sure there are ways to improve them.

The fuse system has made weapon durability a non issue, IMO. Even a stick with a monster drop attached to it can be pretty strong. And there are basic metal swords littered all over the world.
For Rupees your best bet is to explore caves (not the underworld) and gather gems to sell. I'm sure there are other/quicker ways but that has provided me with enough to buy whatever I've needed.

On weapon durability, I’ve been mostly fusing swords to various monster bits, which does up their damage, but it still seems like I go through one or two weapons in every enemy encounter.
Exploring the sky islands, I ended up making my way up to the wind temple, but hadn’t found the Rito who was supposed to accompany me, so I had to go all the way back down, do a quest in Rito Village and then work my way back up with him in tow. Will probably finish that temple up tonight.

I may have to look up a guide for the Water Temple. Tried to start it last night and couldn't figure out what to do. I got an orb to float over to another platform after clearing sludge off a bubble machine. Figured out how to drain water on the next platform which allowed the orb to get to it's spot. Water is drained, orb is in place and I can get into this other room which has a gear wheel in it. Couldn't interact with it at all and didn't know what to do with it. I assume I need to get that gear wheel moving but I couldn't figure out how before my charge ran out and the room filled back up with water.

Yeah, sadly that's not the case for Water, yet. He's just standing in the main area of the temple, not following me around like others. I have to use the Zora suit for waterfalls but I'm not even sure what skill the NPC will provide this time. The other two I've completed were Wind and Fire. They both were as you mention.

Thank you

I made the same mistake with the water temple.
