I don't mind the added length of the PS, provided it still fits on a standard component rack. The Xbox may be a bit too tall when sitting horizontally, depending on the height of the shelves.

^Looks like it's identical in height to the Gamecube which is roughly 4.5" which isn't all that tall. The Gamecube's issue was the disc drive lid opening making it taller.

The Wife has been wanting a new entertainment center, so now i'm on board because there's no way that thing will fit on our current one.

Series S will be $299 apparently. Damn. Discless, too.
No price on X yet.

Should've made the "grill" white - it wouldn't look as weird.
I like the look of the Series X, but this doesn't do it for me. Curious to see other angles.

Definitely an interesting strategy to gain the edge on price. Not sure how an all digital console from either company will fare though. Not to mention an all digital console kinda flies in the face of boasting about backwards compatibility dating back 3 generations. What good are those Xbox 1 discs on disc-less system?

Disc-to-digital trade-in could be an option.
but I would think most folks who are specifically interested in playing their old discs would be going for the Series X anyway.

Sony would have to be willing to take a bath if that's the case, wouldn't they? The PS5 models share the same GPU, while the Xbox Series S' is considerably less powerful than the one in the Series X.

But looking at some of my other video game forums, a bunch of people are saying the same thing you are, so I have no trouble believing that I don’t know what I’m talking about.

^ I have no idea what I'm talking about either, so you're in good company. My thought process is that they absolutely won't go higher than $499, and they'd benefit from a modest savings compared to the X. Sony made huge strides by being priced lower than MS in 2013 (among other things, of course). While I think they'd be just fine at $499, as well, I think they think they need to undercut by just a little bit.
$998 for both top-end consoles is not a bad place to be at the end of the year, that's for sure...
Word is MS is doing the All Access payment plan as an option. $25/month for the S. $35/month for the X. Depending on how that's structured, that could be a big deal too.

That's a nice design but I'm also interested in having a 4K disc player so we'll likely go with the full X version.

Do we have any idea what the performance is on the S? It's so much tinier that I have to assume it doesn't have anywhere near the performance numbers of the massive Series X.

Basically, things like frame rate and draw distance and 'stuff' should be the same... Just at 1/3 or 1/4 the resolution.
i won't believe that until Digital Foundry does their analysis, which they are guaranteed to do at some point.

At the end of the day, nobody is buying these consoles for their form factor. They could make that circle hot pink, and people would bitch for a day and then stand in line.
95% of cases it’s just going to sit in the TV stand (horizontally) and collect dust while being used for its primary function.
